Good Questions: Can I Add Lime Green Into My Gold-Orange-Brown Color Scheme?
Los Angeles

092508_lime01.jpgThe Apartment Therapy Fall Colors 2008 Contest is underway and we just received quite a timely color question from AT reader, Vinylcollectors.

“I've decorated my living room in warm golds, oranges and browns and it has a nice warm sunset kind of feel to it. The problem is I've absolutely fallen in love with this lime green arm chair that I'd like to put in the room. I love everything about the chair, including the color, but to me it clashes with the general color scheme of the room. Do you think a blatant color clash can work or will it just look disturbing?”

Ok AT readers, let’s give some color advice to Vinylcollectors.

First off, I think it could look fantastic. Second, if you love it then it works for you and that is all that matters!

The orange and green are complimentary colors, plus you've set the scene with a bunch of neutral colors. Can you say "pop"? :) If it feels good, how can it be wrong?

I have to admit that I'm not particularly crazy about the chartreuse in this color scheme. I think a bright yellow would be better - kinda gives it a Hollywood Regency vibe...

If you have that warm sunset feel in your home that color may tarnish that look just a little, It may boil down to placement of the chair.
Howeva, I have a feeling it will probably look fabulous!

It definitely works. That's what I did in my living room. I think it adds vibrance and life to the room.

Absolutely. It will create a nice contrast to the orange and add an extra kick. Love it!

If you like it, then it works. If it bothers you, then it doesn't. You live there, so yours is the only opinion that matters.

It small textile or cermamic splashes I think I'd like it. Not in paint. Maybe velvet? PB has some great green velvet pillows that are a great shade of green with a yellow undertone. Not too lime, too pea, or too barf. ;-)

That's a superFUN colour! Go for it! You can always reupholster the chair (Curbly.com) later on if you decide it doesn't work for you.

I love it. Although I'd be careful about how the green and the gold mix, like if the green chair is sitting on a gold rug, it might not work.

Of course, I'm biased. I'm doing my entire bedroom with a color scheme based on this brown and white and orange and green fabric!

oh my god..just get the damn chair if you like it!

Seriously stop over-thinking everything!!!!!

Design should be natural.

stop pining.

And please forget heijranc's comment.

all that comes to mind when I think off adding yellow to that mix is..."let the sun shine"

Hollywood regency my ass.

absolutely do it! that green and orange were made for each other. just think of the green as the foliage in your sunset view!

Sure, why not??? Instead of only having the chair being lime green I would also add some little touches of it here and there to make it look more planned such as a throw pillow, picture frame or candles or a piece of art to tie in all the colors.
