Q: Hi Apartment Therapy, We live north of San Diego (in Encinitas) and I am looking for resources to find a bathroom vanity. We are finally planning our bathroom renovation, I have found floor tile and backsplash as pictured above, but we're still looking for a new vanity/sinks/faucets. Can anyone out there tell me where some good online bathroom hardware resources there are for me to shop at, either in/near San Diego or online...[question continued below]

As far as the mirror: No, it needs to go - but you can reuse the glass by having it cut in thirds and making frames for a pair of new bathroom mirrors and a new mirror elsewhere in your home.

It depends a lot on budget. I think you could find some modern, functional, and economical vanities at Ikea. As the mirror goes, I would replace it with a framed mirror to match the vanity you go with.

I used plumbersurplus.com for a great deal of the sourcing of Vanity, sink, hardware, and accessories for our two bathroom remodels. I also used Hakatai for tile (www.hakatai.com), and they were wonderful! Great customer service and I love my glass tile. I also had a wonderful contractor who listened to my ideas and followed through on my vision. Good luck!

Based on your tile selection, I would advise you to check out the new sink and vanity collections at Ikea. There are two new lines that are very clean, made to look like DWR. I wish I could buy one myself but my space is too tight. You, on the other hand have a double sink, lucky.
But, buy the faucet at Home Depot, much easier to install than the metric system sold at Ikea (at least that is what my husband tells me). Love the look of the Ikea facets but won't waste the money because they are difficult to use.
As for the mirror, you could always frame it to match your new vanity. Ikea has lovely round mirrors. CB2 has some great choices too.

I think the mirror is okay as long as you take a minimalist approach to the vanity....and switch out the shower curtain for a glass enclosure. My bathroom is done in the same colors, but in a glass mosaic tile. My vanity is a simple stainless cube with a small integral sink and vola taps.

those tiles are so pretty! I would say get rid of the mirror, it looks like its been there since you moved in and you are going for a custom look, I think spending a few more bucks will take you far.
Also, I'm not sure exactly what your taste is but try looking at some vintage fixtures and mirrors, less expensive and lots of charm.

And I'd second the Ikea suggestion if you don't want to spend a lot of money. If you want something a bit more durable/custom/etc try Restoration Hardware. Beautiful stuff.

i found my faucets for the kitchen and bath at homeclick.com and plumbersurplus.com. If you know the brand/item number of the faucet you love, I'd try froogle.com to find which website has the cheapest one. Restoration Hardware also has their bath sale going on now.

Another, low cost idea that my mom did with a similar vanity: paint it a flat color, she used a charcoal gray and then put plain stainless knobs on. Then she put a custom white silestone/ceasarstone countertop on it. Sinks built into the silestone/ceasarstone counter...very modern and easy and inexpensive re-do. She also upgraded the mirror to Rayburn medicine cabinets over each sink.
Where are you planning to put that tile, BTW?

The tile is called Skyline sky loft blend.
And I guess I'm planning to put it between the bottom of the mirror (new mirror!) and the top of the vanity.
I just fell in love with it and really want to use it.

p.s. I think you should keep the big mirror....just have it professionally moved up so that you are able to install your beautiful tile backsplash between the bottom of the mirror and the top of your vanity/sink like you wanted. I think a big mirror makes any room appear larger and grander.
