Q - I just moved to Los Angeles and I brought along this chair that I inherited from my mother. Originally it was covered in an orange fuzzy fabric, but she had it reupholstered a few years ago. Anyway, I would like to set up a reading area with it, but I need a footstool.
What will go with this? I don't have thousands of dollars to spend, but I do want something that will look style-appropriate. Any suggestions?

Editor - How about checking eBay and Craigslist for vintage era designs that you can take to have reupholstered in a complimentary fabric? Matching the exact design may be tough, but there are similar midcentury designs out there for reasonable prices (and you could always sand and re-stain to better match each piece).
By the way, we love the floor clock on the left side of the photo!

That is an AWESOME chair. It's like a mid-century Morris chair! Does it recline?
I like the editor's idea--also, you could try one of those small '60s-era round naugahyde ottomans if you don't want to be too matchy. Either orange or an avocado green would look great. A square one would work too. But either way, look for the kind that is upholstered down to the floor (or almost to the floor) without visible legs.

We had the exact same chair when I was growing up. Orange wool upholstery and all... I knew it when I saw the round knob on the side, that allows the chair to recline. (hmmm, now wondering if my parents still have that chair)

I have that chair and footstool. both have really ratty fabric and need to be redone. It's marked Dux underneath, but I don't know much else about it. It does recline and is very comfortable.

A Wegner type footstool like this one would complement it quite nicely:

Might take some serious commitment to e-bay scavenging and second hand shopping.

You could always go for something entirely different rather than trying to match it as it might not end up being a perfect match.
Like a leather pouf or a jute rotund.
