Escaping to Vegas is fairly doable when you live in Southern California. Even if you aren't into casinos and strippers there's still a lot to do in the desert city. One of those things is shopping. But reader Parhelia is looking for more than Versace and Juicy, she's looking for something offbeat, something local: Now Updated!
I would love is to find some offbeat, quirky shops for home goods, and I don't mean high-end antiques. I have a slight obsession with the Bollywood look as well as Mexican handcrafts, Guatemalan textiles, and nearly anything Moroccan. I also love MCM, but I tend more toward the colorful and quirky retro side. Is is possible to find any of these styles in Vegas? Anywhere to find Indian saris (please!) or Moroccan lanterns? Any cool little shops in Chinatown that aren't just the usual super-cheap trinkets? And naturally I'm looking for opportunities to score a good deal!"
Although we can't help you with the world look you're going for, we can tell you that Vegas is filled with thrift stores. We hit up as many as possible when we go. The shops there haven't been picked over half as badly as around LA:
• Deseret Industries is a giant thrift store that many online have been raving about.
• Catholic Charities’ St Vincent’s Thrift Stores, Colleen’s Classic Consignment, and Opportunity Village Arc Main Street are some other thrift stores that have been recommended by locals.
For high design:
• Unica Home has their homebase in Vegas store and it is filled with every modern design brand you can think of: artecnica, kartell, herman miller, philippe starck, etc. Definitely not budget friendly but nice simple modern design, and you can find smaller items too that won't break the bank.

We want to hear from all you Vegas-ites and everyone that 'vacations' in Vegas, where are the shops that we shouldn't miss, offbeat or otherwise?

It's not a popup, it's in the same window and obscuring the text. There's something wrong with the rendering of the whole page, neither of the side columns are in the correct place.

fastest way to kill a blog-zine is to overload it with annoying ads on every page. stop it! stop it! stop it!
advertisers should keep in mind that there are many of us who will go out of our way to specifically not purchase products that have placed these awful, invasive inserts!
again, stop it!

Since i live in Las Vegas I would have loved to read this article also... There are not very many articles at all that deal with our area, and although LA is close... it is not practical for me to drive to LA often to go to a houseware store... Not to mention since I do not have a large car, buying anything big is not an option... Boo on the ads!!

I can't really read the article either, but you seem to be asking for store leads in Las Vegas. Every time I'm in Vegas, I spend at least an hour wandering slowly through Villa Reale in the Forum Shops at Ceasar's. This place is beyond incredible. They have antique furniture, signed Picasso and Norman Rockwell paintings, chandeliers, old maps, and anything else you can think of.
So far as I can tell, they carry both antiques and reproductions. The shop is full of little corners and nooks to get lost in. It's a real breath of fresh air and the only non-national shop I know of on the Strip. It's absolutely worth checking out and spending some time, if not a whole ton of money.

Hi everyone--
the ad was my fault! I missed a closing tag in my coding and it displaced the ad! Sorry!
would still love to hear your advice for where to go in Vegas!

Ok, I am so glad we can read this now!!
I recently went to the Salvation Army Thrift store on Durango. I had a great ball there! I love mid century modern and boy, did I see things from that era! Real blast from the past stuff...
I really just went to see if they had cheap baby blankets for my puppies crate... Got those too, pretty good shape for 50 cents each!
And I love getting strangers work shirts with the names on them, so funny!
