Good Question: Is the Craigslist Rug Worth It?

082707_rug.jpgHello AT,
I went to view the rug in the craigslist posting and I love it, but it is old and needs a few repairs and needs to be cleaned. Do you think this rug is worth $250? If not, what should I ask for?
I just want to make sure I'm not getting ripped off before I buy it.

Personally we've spent $80 or more getting rugs drycleaned and had wonderful results. A rug this size new could cost you upwards of $1,000. We say if it can handle a cleaning it's worth it. Of course, it is always worth it to barter since it is Craigslist.

Priscilla needs some answers today otherwise it might be too late for her craigslist find. What do you think ATers?

great pattern. If it's wool and hand-knotted, I'd say it's a decent deal but there's no harm in bargaining a little on the price.

I have a rug that looks great but has some pet stain smell. Where can I take it to have it "dry cleaned" or "deodorized" or whatever?
I live in LA (Miracle Mile) area...

No harm in bargaining a little. I think sellers expect that. Depending on how dirty the rug is, you could wash it yourself. SInce it is wool, I would probably use woolite, take it to a laundromat with big washers and let it soak in cold water, and spin dry, take it home and hang or drape it somewhere to dry fully.

if it's an oriental, just be careful of low areas and dry spots. you said it needs repairs, which can be pretty expensive. some of these craigslist sellers buy off ebay to sell on CL. when I needed advise on my rug, I asked the dudes on the rug rag forum. Really helpful.
