Good Question: Organizing Drawers

0904_clutter_into_charm_4.jpg
My biggest pet peeve seems trivial; and in its trivial-ness, it bothers me EVEN MORE. After folding about 2 loads of laundry and packing them away in their drawers, I'll get up the next morning to get dressed, and the shirt that I want to wear is near the bottom of the stack. So I'll have to pull it out, and then bam! Messiness in the drawers.

I'm not about spend another 10 minutes straightening my drawers every morning either. (This also happens when I'm at a store and I'm looking for my size and of course, it's at the bottom, so I end up upheaving a stack of perfectly folded shirts and get dirty looks from the shop employees).

My mum suggested that I try rolling the shirts like towels and placing them in the drawer. "Easier access," she said. "That way, if you DO end up ever wearing that shirt with the two pigs doing the dirty with that awful slogan, 'Makin' Bacon!', you don't have to turn your drawers upside down and inside out." So far, it's been working, although I've learned now that it's best to roll any design markings on the outside in case of mistaken tshirt identity. Oh, and the reason why I don't wear that Makin' Bacon shirt out in public is because my mum told me she'd disown me.

Anyone else have any suggestions on preventing drawer dishevelment?

this is totally my issue, but i don't work well with hanging clothes, either. rather, i work best with clothes all piled on a chair. seriously. i despise it, but it's how my bedroom always ends up! i need to embrace it. maybe. or maybe the rolling of clothes could work for me, though what do you think about 100 hooks on the wall!? flat file? one shirt per drawer? le sigh.

Were you searching for the word "triviality"?

We fold like normal but add an extra fold (in half) at the end and "file" shirts in drawers. If there's a graphic on the front, we can usually see enough of it to know what it is.

I do the same as Swan and it works great for all my graphic tees cardigan sweaters, various camisoles and tank tops.

I flip-fold (www.flipfold.com) and then bend my tees horizontaily (like a taco) and stack them (imagine the rounded end of the taco facing up at you when you open the drawer and the open end of the taco facing the bottom of the drawer - don't if that helps). You'd think there'd be a big crease going across the chest of each shirt, but there isn't. Plus, it creates more drawer space and if you're feeling ambitious, you can stack by color, which if you're like me and have tees in all hues of the rainbow, is very pleasing.

my boyfriend has a flip-fold. it sucks for girls shirts *even the small one* and the texture on it makes me cringe. good idea, but could have at least used a texture that doesnt' feel like a nail file......ehhhhhhh YUCK

I just hang everything up, mostly because I hate organizing drawers and also because I´m lucky enough to have 2 closets and not a lot of clothes (maybe not so lucky :). I don´t have a dryer, so when I get my clothes out of the washer, I just put them on hangers, and out on my clothesline .. then just stick them in the closet after they are dry.
