Good Question: Resource for Replating Chrome?
Los Angeles

090208_bertoia.jpgI recently purchased a couple of used Bertoia side chairs at a great price - the caveat being that some overzelous soul had gone at them with steel wool in order to remove patches of rust and as a result, stripped the chrome finish.

Any suggestions for a Los Angeles source to have the chrome replated - and any idea of the approximate cost involved in doing so? -- Ana B.

Oooh, good question! I've got a reproduction that sat on my patio in Austin and got nice and rusted.

Wheel and rim repair shops do it in house or send it out, you could call a local one who could likely do it or point you in the right direction.

Ana- take your chair to a company that specializes in plating. Here are some Los Angeles companies that would fill your needs: Beverly Hills Plating on Robertson 310-271-1701. They are family owned and super friendly. I have used them for 3 projects of mine.
Also, Faith plating on Santa Monica Blvd. 818-783-4582. Faith is on the expensive side but capable to handle small and large projects.
Look at plating companies that are in the Valley as it might save you some dollars. Hope this helps.

My guess it would cost anywhere between $100 to $300 depending on where you take it.

If you are willing to spend a little more on it... ask for triple chrome. It is a really smooth and very deep reflections and is very durable. it will cost a little more though.
