Good Questions: A Good LA Upholsterer?

Hello AT,
Do you know of a good furniture upholsterer in West Hollywood or somewhere close to it in LA??? I have an old chair that has that terrible vinyl leather and it's old and scratched and I'm desperate to make it tres chic! Many thanks - love this blog - Lucie

Thanks, Lucie- we love you, too! We have a great go-to upholster called Chalios (1414 W. Pico, 213.250.5344) German and his father are great. They'll come pick up your stuff, are very quick in their turn-around, and we find them to be among the most reasonable in town. That being said, we watch over them like a hawk and always give WRITTEN instructions - you'd be surprised how what you think is obvious isn't. Like the direction of a stripe, where a zipper should go, how long the drop of an ottoman slipcover should be...

Anyone else have a good resource that they'd like to share?

I used Mundo's Upholstery Shop at 5467 Huntington Drive North, Los Angeles 323.222.5872.
I had 5 chair pads redone along with 3 new seat frames built for only $150. Was amazed at the quality of work for such a low price. I had redone the same chairs at a WLA shop 10 years earlier for $250 using cheaper press board seats. This time I got higher quality for much less.

unasuming name, but great quality ... we had an complicated office chair with a bent plywood re-upholstered and they did an excellent job. They do everything slipcovers, lampshades, matching curtains, etc.

I am a custom furniture fabricator, and my shop uses him for all our stuff. Our shop used to be next door.

go to emilos upholstery on robertson blvd...they have been in business for 29 years...310 559 1061...they are right next door to campos tacos and hamilton hight school.
they have done stuf for donna summer, carol burnet, oprah,
big estates in beverly park. they are very flexible with
their prices...emilio is 76 been in the business since he was 16
here in los angeles... give them a call, talk to lydia or james.

the list goes on and on...been in business for almost 30 years
