Los Angeles

Dear AT: My oven is not working at all. The stovetop works though. Anyway the gas company came by and said the igniter is not working and has to be replaced. Do you know of any affordable appliance repair places in LA?

I imagine the cost to repair it (combined with the cost of energy to run something inefficient like an old unit), will probably outweigh buying a new one. I'm all for repairing and reusing things, but perhaps you should also look into a newer, greener, more energy efficient range.

Buy a new one. It will be more energy efficient, more attractive, and be better for resale.

There are a lot of good ones in East LA. I don't have the card of the guy i go to, but will post it once i get home. But just of the top of my head i can think of one, on whittier blvd, just east of eastern. One of olympic just west of indiana, and one of 3rd street just east of mott street. If you're willing to pay more, I believe Hernandez bros. in Hollywood does repairs.

You can also try Sears. They will repair anything, even if you didn't buy it from them.

Antique stove heaven!!!! They are amazing and work exclusively with antique stoves. I bought a stove last that the gas company said needed a new part. After a bad, and expensive, and worthless experience with another company, I found them. They are a flat rate for the visit, and if they can't fix it, they don't charge you. It says it right on their card. GO to them! Antiquestoveheaven.com

Hey Jose,
Don't forget the one on Atlantic, south of Whittier.
