Good Questions: Affordable Sectional Sofas

zgalleriesec6.21.jpg
Hello AT,
I desperately NEED a small scale sectional with a chaise. I don't want to spend more than $2000. I would like a lighter color, like gray, khaki, taupe, oyster, but not white. Preferably microfiber and the chaise can't be much longer than 60".
Can anyone recommend anything!!?
Thanks in advance!
Jamie

-Jamie, not sure how small you need to go but Z Gallerie (pictured) has a Gracie Sectional you may want to check out...anyone else?

Plummers has several sectional options (in fabric and in leather), all priced between $950-1300. http://www.plummersfurniture.com/ I've had a couch from Plummers in the past; and the quality was good/very good but very reasonably-priced. If you're in LA, the closest showroom is in the Helms Bakery building in Culver City. If you go, be forewarned that a good amount of their merch and decor is mass-market modern, verging on tacky. That said, there are still several good finds here. So head straight to the couches for an in-person test-drive.

I second Plummers- My current couch is from Plummers and they suprisingly had a good selection of styles and fabrics to choose room-

Shut the front door, Jon Lo! I always assumed from the pics I've seen of your place that your sofa was from Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams... There you go, 2 votes for you to check out Plummers in addition to Z Gallerie in order to stay within your budget.

Metropolitan Living Furniture in downtown Long Beach has a huge variety of sofas and they can modify them to be shorter, narrower, armless, etc. if needed. They also have what they call apartment sized furniture.

I had originally considered using them because I have a hallway shaped like a lightening bolt that every piece of furniture I own must pass through. I ended up finding the perfect couch on Craigs list for $40.00, but the people at MLF were really helpful and no pressure.

You can go to losangelesfurniture.com and click on conteporary sofas.

Good Luck!

we got our sofas from Sofa U Love- they'll customize to what you want (base sofa is ~$800, not sure how much if you add chaise) re: fabrics, size, arm and back styles, etc, made here in LA with good hardwood frames and down cushions.

several locations throughout the area:

also, there are usually $100 off coupons floating around somewhere in those Val-Pak envelopes, or the LA Times.

enrique-
yeah- i wanted a "clean lines" couch, straight sides, etc.. and originally i wasn't even going to consider Plummers, but a friend of mine convinced me to check it out- and sure enough- they had exactly what i was looking for and offered it an even better fabric color than i had originally wanted... took 3 months since it was custom, but i'm very happy with it...

i'm a fan of the sofa company in culver city. they're not pricey, their stuff is well made & they fabricate so you can change fabric, size, details, etc. they can even copy a couch from a picture.

BAM!!! If you're looking for cheap...well...here is a place I sourced years ago. Styles are not as...uh...sophisticated...as...uh...what most APTtherapy readers are used to, but there are a few appealing models. Plus they're willing to custom make a new model or modify an existing design per your spec.

Their staff is very friendly and they have a showroom/warehouse in Ontario.

Shalom -

I've had good luck with Tiffany's furniture in Los Angeles. The quality is good considering the IKEA-level prices, and some of the styles aren't too tough on the eyes. However, I would recommend buying Knoll-style feet and switching them out.

Here's their email address: tiffanysfurniture@sbcglobal.net

Peace,

Rusty

The CB2 annex sectional ($1348) comes in a charcoal that may be a bit dark, and an ivory that is probably a bit white. They have other shapes as well When I was in Chicago last summer I sat on it and was quite impressed with the comfort. I came very close to buying it, and some days think I should have instead of what I did purchase.

We just ordered a custom suede sectional from Pampa. They have a 20% off deal right now so we got it for $1800 after taxes... 10x6... They have some base shapes and plenty of fabrics.

In general, unless you really like something you see in a catalog, you may as well just get a custom one. Sofa shopping is not a lot of fun, especially down on Western when it's 95 out :)

Room & Board has a sectional that should fit the bill -- just over $2000 ($2100) gets you the 56" Jaspesr sofa and the Jasper wide chaise in microsuede (linked to my name below). Available in a number of colors that might interest you. Overall dimensions: 60" long chaise, 93" across the back. Personally, I find Jaspers to be super comfy...

Someone on an open thread on the New York site sent me to this thread to answer the same question. I've been considering the Alberto Scetional Chaise from DWR, ($3998.00).

http://www.dwr.com/productdetail.cfm?id=5198

I need something in black leather, and I don't want a pedestal base, because it makes a black sofa look chunky. Something up on legs, preferable metal/chrome legs. I could be very happy with the Alberto- It's a little pricey, but I really just wish it had a lighter look (the armrests are pretty chunky)... I just wish there were more options.

Something as minimal in its lines as the Theatre love seat...

...or even Eames' Sofa Compact-

BUT in a sectional with a chaise.

Check out Blueprint on Beverly at the corner of Kings Road (just east of La Cienega)

mscot. Good suggestion. Last time I was at Blueprint, I noticed that they were selling off overstock sectionals for around $800-900.

There's this really beautiful store in Pasadena called "Essence of Living". They have custom sofa sectionals like the one you pictured for around $1400. They were able to customize our sofa and deliver it to us in about 2 weeks. The quality was very good and they offer a wide variety of fabrics. I beleive they have another store in Redondo Beach as well. Check out their website essencefurnishings.com.
