I planned months ago to paint my house, but I kept putting it off mainly because I couldn't decide on the colors! (And don't believe anyone who tells you that picking interior paint colors is harder.) Anyway, I think I've narrowed down my options, but I'm still not 100% sure on either...
Option 1 is to stick with the original colors that the house came in. Beige exterior, white trim, and this...umm...seafoam green(?) front door. To be honest, I'm not totally sold on the green, especially after multiple people--my neighbors included--have told me that it reminds them of toothpaste.
Option 2 is to go on the opposite end of the spectrum: Light slate-grey exterior with muted undertones of blue paired with white trim and a midnight blue door.
What do you think, dear readers? Option 1, 2, or none of the above?
P.S. The door hardware and house numbers are currently silver plated chrome.
option 2

2 should be the only option!

option 2 - the red brick really pops nicely with the slate.

two, for sure. how on earth did you edit your pic so well? ive been toying around in photoshop forever trying to figure out which colors to do as well, and it never turns out nice. i guess it just feels so final when you pick exterior colors. like, youve got to be 100% sure, or something.

Two.
My personal favorite is always a dark slate color with a red door and white trim, but that's just me, the apartment-dweller, living vicariously through you house owner types.

Option 2. Choosing exterior house paints is so tough, so kudos to you for this much improved color palette! I might also try a variation of gray for the wall color around the two exterior windows.

2 - but paint the front door red.

definitely option two, and ray ray uva! :)

two, but paint your door rusty red instead of dark blue!

#2 but as others have said choose a different door color. I like the red.

Option 2 looks much better.
I would also consider adding more moldings on each side of the door, as far over as to include the light and mail box within the over-all image of the door---giving the door a more dramatic punch. Then taking your gray/slate color a small bit darker.
Hard to say when not really being there to see in person.
But over-all I do really like the change you are making.

Wahoo-Wa, Ray Ray UVA!

2 looks cool. As an alternate color for the door, perhaps you might want to consider a sunshiny yellow (with a twist of orange).

Option Two - but I'd paint the door Red for luck (and to tie in w/ your brickwork)

Well, certainly don't keep the beige! Option 2 does look a little dark though - if you're not feeling the red door, maybe a lighter / brighter version of the wall color, or even just leave the sea foam green (toothpaste is so refreshing after all!).

#2. I have been lusting after my neighbor's dark slatey gray blue house. It looks amazing with black trim on the inner edges of the window frame and crossbars. Their door is also black and it's surprisingly not scary.

Definitely two but, yes, try a bright door!

Go 'Hoos!
Either paint a bright door or get some hardware that will pop in all that darkness.
view grlwprls's profile
Definitely two, but I also vote for a warm, bright color for the door.

Option two, but with a bright, fun color for the door. Always have fun with the door!

Number 2. Agree with a red door to match the brick. Or a black door and black window mullions for an elegant London vibe.

2 - is this unanimous?

#2, but if red is too much, what about a white door?

I'm in the "slate walls with rusty-red door" camp.

Though now that I think about it, keeping your walls the biegey color and then painting the door the dark slate color might look nice too.

#1, hands down.
Just kidding. The #2 thing was just getting a bit old.
Seriously, #2 is much better, and you might even want to consider a *slightly* deeper shade of the same color.

I like option two but instead of the dark green door, what about a TEXAS TECH red door? sorry. I couldnt help myself. But seriously, a red door would really look awesome with that color and it is good feng shei as well as thought to bring luck to the occupants.

#2 with a different color door. i thought of red as well.

I would try the red orange tone too..punch up the details with big pewter numbers.( .don't care for the chrome) that still have a gloss to them..and quirky, modern light fixture..It's a cute house!..Then in flower season, you'll have fun picking out the orangey and white flowers..and blue would pop them out too against the house..

Two! And, rusty red door... I don't know what the growing seasons are like in LA, but throw some plant color in the front yard! It will soften up the whole entry. Also, get some fertilizer (organic) on those vines attached to the trellis. Good luck and congrats on being a home owner!

I would paint your door a color that matches that beautiful red brick. Too much grey makes the house seem to sink away into the background.

WAHOOWA! (option 2)
view thevirginian's profile
I like the second except I'd go for a slightly paler, slightly grayer blue than it looks in that picture.
And an orange door.

Sagesse and nausved have a REALLY good idea about painting the door a red to match that brick.
