We received this email from reader April and we're hoping someone out there will answer her call for some help:
My apartment building was built in the 1930's, a large one bedroom with living room, dining room kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. I moved in last year November 3rd. I use to be real organized and a clean freak, but I got very sick (terminal illness) and can't get any help re-organizing this beautiful place! It also has nice wood floors and an old fireplace that I want to see in working this winter. So much to do, but no help. What do you suggest I do? Where can I get some help to turn this place into a spiritual sanctuary? April.

I'm truly sorry to hear about your situation. My suggestion would be to reach out to your local Hospice and discuss the many facets of the volunteer programs they have. I bet they have a volunteer that's super handy with organization and whatnot.

I'm sure you qualify as a disabled person. Various social services will come in and give you some home assistance. Lutheran Social Services does this in some states.
Best of luck!

April,
My wife and I would love to help!!!
We'd like to organize a group of people who would be willing to go over to your house and spruce things up for the season.
April, if you're reading this and you are okay with the proposition, email me and we will get the ball rolling.
Ideally, we'd like to come over on a Saturday and work all day. If you're up for it, we would love to serve you.
And I'm sure there are lots who will read this and would love to hop on board. Who knows, maybe even one of your local neighbors!
We will put together a team of decorators, handy-men and woman, and folks who just want to help out!
Please email me: etrine@gmail.com
Let me know what else you need - cleaning supplies, vacuuming, painting, electrical, anything?
We will take care of you at no cost to you what so ever.
Thank you for having the courage to ask for help, we can't wait to help out!
Any other AT LA readers that want to help? Email me too! This is gonna be fun!!!!

Like Eric's post before - I'd love to come over a help! I work weekdays until 6, but nearly all of my weekends are free. I live in Hollywood, but if you're in the general Los Angeles area, I'm more than happy to come over do whatever needs to be done! I'm sure my boyfriend would love to help, too.
Feel free to e-mail me, dialmformarvel@gmail.com

April, so sorry to hear of your situation. I am glad for the volunteers, above. You are smart--establishing a spiritual sanctuary is the right idea. If I lived out there, I would help, too.

Wow, I wish that I lived anywhere near LA, I would love to help you with something like this. Good luck though, I hope that everything turns out well.

April, I live in a small city on the other side of the continent from you, so I can't help. But I will send my thoughts and prayers your way. This post and the responses to it made me cry. Sometimes, we buy into the stereotype that in big cities, people don't care about their neighbours. This proves how wrong we are. Good luck to all the renovators.

Hey everyone, I received an email from April, and apparently there was some confusion on where exactly she lives.
April actually lives in Cincinnati, Ohio.
So, for are you AT readers who are located in that general area, send some volunteer power that way!
Good luck.
And if there is anyone else out there in the Los Angeles area with special needs this holiday season, don't be afraid to ask!
