Good Questions: Modern Desk Accessories Recommendations?
Los Angeles

011409ThomasPaul.jpgI looked through the archives here, but couldn't find what I wanted exactly. What are some really good local stores to find cool (and moderately priced) modern desk accessories? Pencil cups, mouse pads, in-boxes, etc? I found some awesome (and really reasonable) stuff in the Thomas Paul Collection, but it doesn't feature everything I need, and I wondered what other choices I might have amongst local vendors. Anybody have any favorites? Thanks, Tracy.

See Jane Work is a good source

I use what I had- an old Aalto glass vase to hold my markers and pens, beautiful old tea cups to hold paper clips and other clips, an old lacquer tray as my in box. I did buy different color linen boxes and periodical holders to organize things I need access often.

I was just going to suggest See Jane Work. They have a great website and a super cute little store in Thousand Oaks.

Another great thing with See Jane Work is that they show all the different brands, so if you want to see what other products are out there, or if you want to check things out in person, you can try going to the brand websites to browse and see stocklists.

Have you tried Etsy? They have some cute things there. The bonus is that it is all hand made. And if you find something that you like but it doesn't have exactly what you want- contact them. Lots of people on etsy will do custom work.

We have some really great stuff from Russell Hazel and Arcadia Home. The Cotton Green Desk Set from Arcadia Home is made from salvaged rags from the apparel industry in India. Check it all out - http://www.tonichome.com/catalog.php?item=685&catid=14&ret=catalog.php%3Fcategory%3D14

I bought some stuff from See Jane Work last month. When the package arrived, one of the items was not included and listed as backordered. I had not been previously notified of this, there's no indication of a date when I'll be getting the item, my emails go unanswered, their phone number is voicemail and my phone message has also gone unanswered. My credit card has been charged for the item and it's still available to add to cart and buy on their site. I'm starting to fume at this point....

Would not recommend them at all.

Thanks for the great suggestions, everyone! See Jane Work is quite cool, and I totally should have thought of Etsy. Plus World Market? Who'da thunk?
