Hi AT! I acquired a chair frame from a family member and would like to know if anyone can help me identify it or tell me how to go about repairing it. The frame is VERY heavy and is constructed of white belts, all of which were intact until my father decided to take a seat and broke one of them...
There are a total four snaps on two belts to which a cushion can be eventually added. It had been stored in an outdoor garage/shed and unfortunately has some mold on the inside of the belts and appears to have a little rust developing around some of the metal as well. Do I need to replace all of the belts? Where would I begin searching for replacements online? If nothing else, can anyone identify this chair frame? -Shalisha

I don't know - but it appears that it's missing it's cushion(s), which is why Dad broke it when he sat.

Better your dad than one of your friends who is insecure about their weight!

My guess is the belts were a creative replacement for when the original straps broke. Maybe you can find a full set of replacement belts (or some straps) and then also get a cushion. I seriously doubt it is meant to be used without a cushion.

The legs look like a PK22 (Paul Kjaerholm via Fritz Hansen)

Those don't look like any normal belts i've seen...two hooks with snaps in the middle?...so my guess is that they're original
And I think Shalisha (but maybe not her dad) realizes the cushions are missing since she said it has snaps to add them.

sorry, Poul Kjaerholm, not Paul. But I can't tell from the pictures whether it is an "original" or knock-off.

That's an Ari chair by Arne Norell. It is swedish and was designed in 1966. More info here:

I also have this chair-in brown with the original leather cushion. I bought it at a yard sale for $10!(!) I didn't know who the chair was by either until I saw it in an apartment in Domino. Bosse is right about the designer. Apparently Arne Norell won the British Furniture Manufacturer's "Showpiece of the year" award for this chair-in 1973.
I have recently been considering having a new leather cushion made and replacing the straps, (a couple were dried out and broke on mine as well) though I have no idea how much that might cost. I love the chair and plan to keep it for a long time, so I'm not so worried about how it might affect the value.
If you find any leads for repair- I would love to hear about them!
