Good Questions: Custom Closet Source in LA?
Los Angeles

Dear Apartment Therapy LA and reader community, Who in Los Angeles does great custom closets? We've just had Closet World come and do an estimate for our new loft, but it seemed too expensive and there are a lot of negative comments online about Closet World as a company. Also, I'd love to give a smaller, locally owned carpenter the work if someone can recommend a place...thanks! -Karyn

You have to try Lisa Adams of LA Closet Design. www.laclosetdesign.com She is bar none the best. Her designs are original, she uses green materials and she manages to build personality and functionality into closet spaces. She specializes in creating multi-functioning spaces but she'll do traditional wardrobes and closets too. She is not inexpensive but you are paying for style and high quality. And she is very responsive and timely. Good luck.

whatever you do, do NOT use 'closets by design.' had a horrible and expensive experience with them.

If you are looking for a contemporary finish, Jesse Italia creates custom closet and wardrobe systems closely modeled on the designs of Poliform. Jesse products can be ordered through Pomp in Culver City or Interior Illusions in West Hollywood or Santa Monica.

i would think that any carpenter worth his/her salt could do the closets reasonably.

collect designs (and quotes that you won't care about) from other companies, choose your fav, scope out the products at your local building store, and have the carpenter install and make it look built in with molding etc.

I've used Alger lighting for some commercial projects. I know they'll do one (ie. you don't have to have a quantity) They are kind of expensive, but really great to work with.

I used a great local company called Amazing Closets (they're in Inglewood, CA). There cost was about 25% lower than other quotes I was receiving. Good quality and good service.

You should definitely call Amazing Closet, they were courteous, polite, efficient, clean and hard working. They had me review all their work before leaving. We love our closets, we could not be happier, it was money well spent.
