Hello AT,
We are about to redo our Kitchen (upstate New York) and while we want to maintain the integrity of its 100 year old country style we are not wanting to break the bank. We are wondering about soapstone as a counter top? We love the soapstone sinks for sure, but want to know if anyone has had experience with using the material on the counter top. This will be a very used kitchen so things like livability and longevity are important in other words, we dont want it to look like crap in two years!
Thanks, Robin and John

i actually have a soapstone kitchen sink and partial countertop surface, which is where the drying rack for our dishes live. the sink itself is kind of a large, box-like shape, which jives with the industrial feel of our place. it's a beautiful material and we are constantly complimented on it. i must say that after a few years of soap and hard water on it, it has developed a whitish kind of deposit layer that we want to clean off. it's also not quite as hard as it seems and can scratch a little bit. still, beither of these things have diminished the look very much at all and we still love it. i'm actually in the process of researching options for rejuvenating the natural look and will post back once i've found a solution.
cheers, jonathan
