I agree, leave it like it is. I think that if you papered both walls, it would make it look like a tunnel. I like the way you have it now! :)

I agree with not wallpapering the other wall. I wish I could see what the wallpaper looks like. Maybe you could frame the wallpaper in identical frames going down the other wall. Or use the wallpaper as mats in frames of art/photos that work with the wallpaper.

I love anne's idea of using the wallpaper as mats for framing. Doing both sides in that wallpaper could look too busy for what seems to be a pretty narrow hall.

if this is the central spine of your house, i think the symmetry is paramount. i vote for both sides. love the dramatic carved mirror on the end wall. perhaps more framed artwork on the left side - and if i were you i would avoid crafty projects if you can afford to. wallpaper is a bold move madeline- why not go all the way!!

I'm in love with that wallpaper!! I'm sticking with the framed paper on the opposite wall and now that I see the pattern, I think it can stand alone in a frame. I agree that the hall needs consistency and if you go with the frames you'll bring the wallpaper to the other side without the feeling of being closed in. And as much as I like the mirror at the end of the hall I think you could go even bolder with a much larger, simpler mirror.

OH, this is crazy and I am no decorator so feel free to laugh at me - but what about mirrors on the painted wall? Looks like you could do 2 mirrors and that would really open up the place. Then again, could look really tacky.

Thanks for suggestions everyone. Sassy and a few other folks are worried about the closeness of the space. Although the hall is narrow, there are three skylights in it and it is very bright. There isn't really an issue with opening the space up, even though the picture makes it look sooo narrow. The rest of the house is pretty open and the hall actually doesn't feel closed in. I kinda think it looks unfinished with the hallway only half papered.

hi madeleine- i agree with you- i kinda feel that it feels unfinished without all the walls papered- mainly because it isn't a very wide hallway- if it was larger, than i think you could get away with keeping one of the walls blank- but i think because this hallways seems a bit narrower- to me it looks unbalanced if you don't complete the other walls. Normally, in a room, it is common to "accent" a wall- but this really isn't a room, it's a hallway, and I feel like it should be consistent and uniform to bring you through. Great choice of paper by the way!

Paper the bottom of the painted wall....chair-rail height. Nail some trim as a chair rail on that wall only.

I'd actually remove the wallpaper from the end wall. When you stand where you took the picture, the pattern close to you looks larger because it's right in front of you.........but the far-away pattern at the end looks TINY, so the hall looks really long and narrow. Painting that end wall will help shorten the space and "widen" the hall, IMO.

Hang a big piece of art on the end wall. You could even ENLARGE a flower (or whatever it is) from your wallpaper and paint that on the end wall.

You could also do the chair-rail thing to the end wall, with the paper only at the bottom.
