Good Questions: What Paint Color is This?

121207_tealwall.jpg

AT:LA reader Lainie asks us this burning question: I'm hoping AT or a reader can help me identify the paint in this domino gallery, or one very similar to it. I love it and haven't found anything like it!

Dear Lainie,

Yes, we love this color too! The bad news is that we tried to find the April 2006 issue of Domino that this living room was featured in, and we came up short. The good news is that we found two similar shades over at Sherwin-Williams. We're wavering between the two, but we honestly can't seem to decide which one is closer: Loyal Blue vs. Bosporous. Anyone else have any suggestions?

It could be either color - or it could be that the image was color-corrected and that wall paint doesn't really exist.

Frequently magazines color-correct photos to make them pop more, which can make for an interior that is impossible to match.

I think AliMC's color correction hypothesis is correct.

You could ask a paint store to match the picture for you, as a customized color. But it might not look the same in your home, depending on your light, etc.

Part of the appeal of the color is the finish, FYI. I guarantee it's a custom job with glazing, et cetera, rather than straight from the can. It actually looks gently waxed and soft.

The Sherwin-Williams link doesn't work, by the way.

The closest I found was Pantone's "Ink Blue" but I definitely agree that the color is a little pushed in the photo because not all the whites are truly white.

Hi Lainie,

I actually have this issue still at home, I will post the color and name if it's in the magazine when I get home from work!

In the same vein of a question...Is there any way to find out certain paint colors that are on TV shows? i.e. I love the show House and the color that is painted in his office is the color I need on my living room walls. Yet, I don't know the color.

Hey WWoolsey,

I can ask SDSA if they know what that paint color is on the show. I'll post it here if I get an answer...

I'm looking at the issue right now and unfortunately this was one of the few features where they don't mention the colour. But you could go to your fav paint shop and have them do a custom colour match.

Thank you all for your input! I think loyal blue is a good match, and I've sent the request onto Fine Paints of Europe to see if they have a match. I really appreciate the help!

Thanks! I think that it would be a great idea for a website.
