Good Questions: Where is that Skinny Fridge?

03-27-1-25-liebherr.jpgHello AT,
I just discovered your great website, and I have a question regarding refrigerators that I'm quite sure I saw advertised that were tall and narrow, and I've looked and relooked. Can you help me with the names of the manufacturers? I know that one was reported as being fairly pricey, and there was a picture of another that was less expensive. The only type that I can find when I do a search on your website is the Retro refrig.

Thanks, Celia

Celia,

I got my fridge and my range from www.compactappliances.com

http://www.compactappliance.com/jump.jsp?itemID=0&itemType=HOME_PAGE&mtcpromotion=Google%3ECompact%20Appliance%3EAd1

They have a variety of sizes and styles to choose from.

Celia,

I'm not sure of how compact of a refrigerator you are looking for. However, I can point you in the direction of a number of retro fridge manufacturers.

Big Chill makes a great retro fridge. We have a cherry red one in my showroom, and it gets alot of ooo's and aaahh's.

Northstar also makes a really nice fridge. It just doesn't have quite as much interior capacity as Big Chill.

If your looking a truly compact fridge, some of the most stylish are coming out of Europe such as SMEG and Siemens.

And lastly if price is not an issue you can get a 30" inch wide fridge from Subzero. I believe it's their 700 series.

cheers,

It's a great fridge, I looked at it as well. It, however, is about $2000. Yeah.
The manufacturer is Liebherr. Just in the states recently, so hopefully others will follow.
Like you, I would rather store more in my fridge that was taller than that useless cabinet above the shorter, apartment or otherwise, fridges we have offered in the states.

Let me know if you get lucky!

Liebherr is a more expensive one . .
less than subZero but more than a
Summit (formerly know as the Conserv)
made by Danish company Vestfrost
also tall, slim, and well designed
runs around $1000

below that - and easiest to find - is the LG
but it looks cheesier IMHO

there's several threads on the NY site
search "fridge"
several of us were looking for them -- there was a supply issue and a name change, so look at the dates on the posts

I got the Summit last fall - love it

the freezer takes a larger proportion than
a standard fridge
and there is no auto defrost
but I haven't had a problem yet
there's three drawers in the freezer
and a minimal shelf for making ice

[it's not for everyone]
