LA Good Question: Hollywood Regency Style Headboard?

022708_headboard.jpgA girl after our own hearts! Sarah submitted this question:

I am looking for a Louis XV/Hollywood Regency style headboard. Are there any antique shops or furniture stores in LA or California that specialize in this type of furniture? I don't need it to be super high-quality, since I will likely paint and reupholster.

Leave your advice after the cut:

What a great question Sarah. We immediately thought of the headboards that Urban Outfitters have been selling (along with a decal version that Abby posted about yesterday). They aren't antique but since you aren't looking for high quality, they might be an option.

In terms of thrift and antique stores we haven't seen something this specific recently though sometimes Pepe's has something and otherwise we'd say the Rose Bowl Flea Market.

Have you guys seen what Sarah's looking for?

I looked high and low for them - and one unexpectedly popped up on my neighbor's lawn as trash! I was extremely lucky! However - here is my experience : I saw really expensive ones on brocadehome.com - bypassed those... Then I was debating purchasing the UrbanOutfitters one - a few weeks later found the one I have. My best friend made her own (almost exactly the Urban Outfitters one) with an old ikea headboard, cut foam to that shape and sewed a cover to fit. I did see more fabric ones on Overstock.com and I believe it was JC Penney. As well, there's this fabulous sofa and furniture store in Koreatown called Olga Furniture that carries those type of fabric headboards. Alas...I haven't found any reasonable wood ones and I feel your pain! :(
