It's gettin hot in herrrree... So at our house, we're finally ditching the down comforter and replacing it with a lighter coverlet. However, how do you store your down comforters? The last time we had ours cleaned, the cleaners returned the comforter in a handy zippered bag that had ventilated sides. We've been re-using it ever since. Do you put yours in a bag? Are there any you recommend? Or do you just forgo it and store it in the closet? Please share your tips in the comments!

When I first got out of design school, I worked at Pacific Coast Feather in Seattle. They have very thorough care and storage instructions on their website:

After washing and air drying for several days (at least one of those in full sun), I roll mine in a full size flat sheet and store it in a closet. You don't want to put it in plastic.

I made a cover for mine that we use as a decorative, double-wide pillow on the bed.

I made a cotton duffel bag for mine and keep it in the closet (except that right now it's in a box on a truck somewhere).

I keep mine in the (plastic) bag it came in when I bought it. I figure that, if it's good enough for it to be stored in while shipped from the manufacturer and while on the shelf, it's probably okay for me to store it that way as well.
My comforter looks almost exactly like the one in the picture at the top of this post.

Since I live in an apt, I put mine in a vacuum-sealed space bag so that it doesn't take up so much space in our not-so-spacious linen closet. When the winter season comes around again, the comforter puffs up as usual to its original state so no harm done!
