LA Good Questions: A Similar to Sofa To This?

043008_whatsofa.jpgAT reader sfbbqueen's on the hunt to find a similar sofa to the one pictured here from Living Etc. Where in Southern California can I find a sofa like this one by Espacio? Since Espacio doesn't seem to have a distributor in the U.S., we probably can't get the exact sofa, but we'd love to find a good facsimile or something pretty close to it in style. Thanks!

Hey sfbbqueen,

Depending on your budget, there's quite a range of sofas that are similar to this one. If you're on the lower side, there's Custom Sofa Design's London sofa which starts at $749 and Ikea's Kramfor sofa for $899. On the higher end, there's Room and Board's Townsend sofa which starts at about $2300, or Blueprint's Becca Sectional (price varies).

Anyone have any other suggestions?

Espacio is just the name of the store; they sell the work of many different designers produced by a number of manufacturers. It seems to me that your sofa is called Happy Hour, designed by Pietro Arosio, and manufactured by Tacchini.

A simple google search reveals that there is at least one U.S. retailer who carries it, Orange Skin in Chicago. I'll leave it to you to search for more...

It looks almost exactly like the "Happy Hour" sofa by Pietro Arosio http://www.tacchini.it/site/.

Tacchini is an Italian company, but has pretty decent US distribution and it's not as expensive as B&B Italia which has two models (George and Dadone) that also look alot like this sofa.

In my opinion, you won't find anything from a US company that really looks alot like this sofa - the narrow seat cushion and that particular leather color are very European looking.

FWIW, I would avoid Orange Skin at all costs. I had a terrible experience with them. I contacted Tacchini and was referred to a dealer in Cincinnati for any future purchases.

The Naviglio sofa at the Conran Shop has a similar look, and is very beautiful. But it is very pricey..

The Naviglio is very comfortable (I tried it out recently), much more comfortable than the Happy Hour I am sure, but the Happy Hour is edgier, and would be really fun to design a room with...

The Camerich section at HD Buttercup had this sofa on sale:

It's not identical, but it shares similar proportions. I don't remember the sale price, but its definitely way less than the $8900 Naviglio.
