LA Good Questions: Betsey Johnson's Convex Mirror?

040808atlabetsymirror.jpgATLA reader Jill inquires:

Hi Apartment Therapy,
I was wondering if anyone can tell me, where I could find a convex mirror like the one in Betsey Johnson's dining room? Preferably something reasonably priced (less than $200).

040808atlabetsymirro2.jpgAlthough we could find an exact match within your price range, we did find several eBay offerings well within your budget. Several auction items are available that are ripe for some DIY makeover. You might also want to check local flea markets or yard sales, because it looks like the retail options range anywhere between $370- $1600.

Of course, you could just purchase a safety circular convex mirror and have it framed at your local framers exactly as you want.

Looks like an antique mirror at BJ's. You might try antiques shops -- maybe you'll get a lucky buy.

Looks like one of those mirrors people put at the end of their driveway so they can see better when backing out onto a busy street. Don't they sell those at the hardware store? And then put a nice round frame around it. Could be a nice DIY project.

this might be a little high concept but after having seen some post somewhere about that krylon looking glass mirror spraypaint, what about painting the underside of the glass of a bubble glass picture frame? i think you can find those pretty cheap and it might be an interesting DIY.

Ok. This is going to sound really stupid....

But I saw one that looks EXACTLY like that at Target! Yes. Target.

So look there! I want to say it's about $100 or less.

Restoration Hardware has some convex mirrors.. i can't find them on the website, but i know that they're discontinued, and some stores still have a good bundle left. they have them in 3 sizes, you might be looking for the large size. from what i remember, they should be less than $200 for about 26" diameter.

they have a new mirror currently called Portal Convex mirror, but they're ridiculously pricey. the large one is running at $399, but they're really pretty. black framed with an inset frame of about 4" deep, and the frame is gold lined..

Okay, this is a week later and maybe you have already solved the problem (or will never see this comment), but on JCPenney's online outlet today, I saw a convex mirror, dark wood frame, $99.99.
