What to Pair Up With this IKEA Loveseat?
Good Questions

Q: I have a white Klippan loveseat from IKEA that I plan to take with me to my next apartment. I'd like to pair the loveseat with a chair or an additional sofa that is more exciting than plain white. Does the Apartment Therapy community have any ideas for this? Google images mainly turns up pairings of white loveseats with other white furniture. My new place has beige carpeting that I'll probably cover with an area rug. Thanks!

Why don't you tie dye the covers?

Indeed, white goes with just about everything so find a color you like and run with it, if it's blue, add a blue chair to one side and perhaps a yellow or a green something for additional seating and add a pillow or two to the couch to spread the color around.

As for style, it's boxy, but modernish so you can mix it with other styles such as danish modern or more traditional, whatever, heck, even something rustic would work with it as well, it'll even work in an eclectic setting.

Have fun with it!

I'd go for a strong contrast. Intense color and delicate, curvy lines.

I guess you can pick just about any color and not go wrong. Maybe you shouldn't focus on a specific color so much as looking for a chair that calls out to you personally - a chair that you really, really like and then work your design around it and the loveseat. You may want to pick a chair or other larger piece of seating based on your lifestyle as well - what kinds of things do you do in the space? How much room do you need in the room not taken up by furniture? Does the room serve multiple functions (like an office or a spare bedroom for guests or a dining area)? Do you entertain a lot with folks who want to sit on upholstered pieces? You can pick the chair/loveseat based on the function it serves and general appeal to you personally. For example, there are many side chairs that also work well as a desk chair and dining chair.

To answer your question based on my own tastes, I like white sofas contrasted with dark colors - particularly dark brown wood or possibly wicker or rattan. You could also go industrial with a vintage aluminum office chair.

OMG, Klippan has to be THE most uncomfortable sofa I ever owned. I can't believe you're actually taking one with you? Are you sure you want to keep that thing?

Atrain, I was in a similar situation last month. I was in need of a new full sized couch. I first went and selected the new couch I was to purchase and then bought a matching slip cover that was a similar colour to my new couch. They are both now charcoal grey and look great together sitting across the room from each other. Good luck!
