Good Quotes: Gardens

“Gardens are a form of autobiography.”

-- Sydney Eddison - author of Gardens to Go: Creating and Designing a Container Garden

Pictured above are my prized heirloom tomatoes, the result of my first attempt at potted fruit/vegetable gardening. Each morning before I go to work, I inspect both plants with concern and care, looking for insect trouble, yellowing/dried out foilage, and of course, the status of the tomatoes themselves. I've got a vested interest in my plants doing well, as hopefully soon I can harvest a couple and make myself an heirloom tomato salad (just a drizzle of olive oil, balsamic vinegar and a tiny pinch of salt to play against the sweetness). In my case, gardening is not a form of autobiography...it's a cookbook!

I love heirloom tomatoes. How have you staked it up? How much sunlight do they need? Yours looks so healthy, I'm afraid I would kill mine! I tend to over water.

sugarplum: I just recently added a wire cage, which is providing enough support for the plants so far. I initially had these out on our stoop in full sunlight, but they were wilting, so I moved them into a partial shade region at the end of our entry way, and they've since done particularly well. I water them once a day or once every other day depending upon the heat.
