"Well, um, actually a pretty nice little Saturday, we're going to go to Home Depot. Yeah, buy some wallpaper, maybe get some flooring, stuff like that. Maybe Bed, Bath, & Beyond, I don't know, I don't know if we'll have enough time." -Frank the Tank

We used to be able make our own hours at work, so we would run errands during the week to avoid the crowd. Now that we're doing the 9 to 5, we're stuck fighting the retail gridlock on the weekends. There are a few places that we'd rather run to after work than leave for a Saturday run (Ikea in Burbank comes immediately to mind...). So, where do you go on the weekends?
What is that line from?
My brother always makes fun of me and says that.

Free walking tours of San Francisco. I live in a small place so I can live in downtown SF, where many would like to vacation. :) I've learned tons about design, architecture & just cool new places from the walking tours.

Weekends are sacred. I'm one of those people that manages to look up from my screen a few nights a week and go, "How did it get to be 10:30 again? No wonder I'm hungry..." I'm not about to sacrifice down time for errands unless I absolutely have to. Especially since the places I do my regular shopping are on the list for the food and lifestyle tourists that come to Austin.
Saturdays are brunch with friends and an afternoon trapsing about outside. Sundays are all-day pajama fests featuring writing or plowing through a whole novel. Maybe I'll throw on yoga pants and hit Whole Foods or play Rock Band with friends after dinner.

Saturday is always farmers' market day! The rest of the time, I stay at home, cleaning, cooking, hosting lunch or dinner parties, sleeping, etc.
Is it Friday yet?

This past weekend was perfection!
Friday: Went to see an Orlando Magic game and afterward drinks a good conversation at a friend's place
Saturday: (it was rainy) Stayed in pj's most of the day, watched old movies, napped, read some design mags. In the early evening I went to work out and then took a trip to Fresh Market to buy ingredients for a small feast (we had dover sole) YUM! Again...drinks and good conversation
Sunday: Slept in a little. Had a homemade brunch with some friends and decided it was finally time to get some chores done! In the evening I went to my Bellydancing class and of course I spent the rest of the evening watching the Oscars! ( I LOVE La Vie En Rose! Congrats Marion!)
Just thought I'd share. :)

Old School.
I have to check it. I like obnoxiously funny movies.
That line may sound like a Saturday morning (I don't start work on Saturdays until the afternoon) for me. I'd rather be known as that guy than a frat guy.
With a one-day weekend I have to squeeze everything into one day. Which kind of sucks. Many places are obviously closed on Sunday. There's really no chance of sleeping in because if I do I may not be able to do everything on my list.
So, generally, my weekend, Sunday, is sort of like a marathon that begins with the alarm. Have breakfast, walk the dog, clean, run errands, go shopping, do something fun, shop for dinner, cook dinner, order inventory for work, watch Iron chef, sleep. That is, if we don't have a family function to attend to. In which case, that is pretty much my whole weekend (not complaining, I am fortunate to have family).
Wow, sounds kind of lame when I put it on paper. Time for a change.

Ever since I've discovered IKEA after 6pm on weekdays, I can't stand to go there on weekends. In fact, I prefer everything after 6pm on weekdays!
More often than not I end up having to work the weekends, so I try to keep them as errand free as possible, with only the necessary Trader Joe's or Target runs to do. And I'll usually do those at night about an hour or two before the stores close just to avoid crowds.

friday evenings: farmer's market in Eagle Rock, go see a show or go to a party
saturdays: go on a food adventure for breakfast or lunch, usually run errands, take the dog to a park, parties at night
sunday: sleep in, do projects at home

We're going streaking! (Also old school line)
Anyway, I am either running around with friends doing cultural events/movies/eating or doing home projects (like this last weekend, when I made a cover for my bedside bookcase), or sometimes errands, though I like to do that during the week when I can. I am also big on just hanging out at home doing not much of anything.

Lately my 1 day weekend has been spent at The Workroom in Toronto buying the best fabric & sewing supplies. Then I do laundry, and try to prevent Monday from happening.

mscot - I'm going to the Knitting Factory in LA on Friday night :)
Then on the drive back down to San Diego on Saturday I'm hitting a school district administrative office that is being downsized - I received an email saying it was first come first serve and everything is free for the taking. I've got my mind's eye set on one of those old steel desks...fingers crossed.

Nowhere if I can manage it. Weekends are for peace and maybe doing something creative with the decor.
