Eco Friendly Pots from Ecosource

061608_pots.jpgAs we mentioned in 9 ways to use less water in the garden one way to use less water in a container garden is to use plastic pots. The plastic helps to keep the moisture in the soil, however plastic isn't the greatest thing for the environment. So we were really excited to see these Green Pots from Ecosource that are made from rice hulls and can eventually even be composted.

Green Pots are made from rice hulls, a natural by-product of renewable and sustainable crops, contain no harmful chemical or petroleum ingredients and can even be composted. Plus they have a plastic-y finish that will keep moisture in the soil instead of evaporating. We love all the colors and sizes that these come in and the subtle grainy look of each one. Read more on their website. You can buy them at Kelly Green in Silverlake or check out their whole list of retailers.

I just bought a bunch of these from Target and they are so cute and so CHEAP! They run about two bucks a pop and have lots of cute colors to choose from. I give them an A !

just so you all know - these pots are fabulous - but once the batch from Eco Source is depleted they will not be getting them anymore (by them I mean the Bamboo line which is more hip and modern - they will still have the rice hull line) they had some problems with their Chinese manufacturer and will not be offering this line anymore - I have these at my store and keep telling people to get them while they can!

they are soo nice and inexpensive it's shame!

I just had the only plant in a plastic container get knocked off the window ledge by the wind. It fell 6 floors. I'm sticking with terra cotta for now. Also, don't the roots like the breathability of terra cotta more?

I got one at target, one at building 19 (which was the most terrifying place I've ever been... ever.), and another at Abodeon (where they are a couple of bucks more expensive). Love em all... great colors!

Yesterday I fell in love with these eco pots. And then fell in love with the Kangaroo Paw, and then ran across the lovely Dwarf Meyer Lemon tree. So I played hooky from work and found myself a meyer lemon tree (and a dwarf lime), and a Kangaroo Paw, and tried to find some pots.

I went to Mordigans on Third, and Anawalt on Highland and Osh on Venice, and I can't find these green pots or really anything affordable and attractive enough to plant my new plants in. Do you guys have any suggestions for attainable planters that are big enough to plant a dwarf tree in that are under $50? I'd love some suggestions.

so... after raving about these pots... i woke up and walked outside yesterday morning to see that one of them had split down the side! the landlords who occupy the other half are away, there's no way anyone could've gotten to it, and it hadn't blown over (the dirt and jalapeno seedlings were intact!) it just split of its own accord... lame! still functional for this year, but i won't be saving it, unfortunately.

I love these eco pots! The colors are so earthy and fabulous! I work at Happy in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles and these are one of our most popular items! I love that they are made from a sustainable resource. Check out what we have in stock at www.happylosangeles.com!
