Look! Krylon's Low VOC Spray Paint

052908_spray.jpgWith how much we love to use spray paint to easily transform vintage (or curbside) finds, we were secretly feeling a little guilty since spray paint isn't the most eco-friendly thing around. Well we can relax a little because we just discovered that Krylon is now making one that's low VOC.

Krylon's H2O Latex is 100% acrylic latex spray paint. And because it's a latex paint, it cleans up much more easily than conventional spraypaints, using just soap and water will get it off your hands (for instance). It also contributes 55% less to smog pollution than most solvent-based spray paints and is safe(r) to use indoors since it is a low odor/low toxicity spray. Currently you can find it in 21 different colors, but their website says that they're expanding that. And like most spray paint you can use it on wood, metal, wicker, glass, craft foam, plaster, ceramic, fabric and paper.

We did a quick search and found that, online, a can goes for anywhere from $3.80-$5.50.

Not bad. $3.80 is within ball park of readily available spray paint.

I painted a dresser for my baby's room with this and the spray came out foamy. I used 4 different cans and followed the directions, but couldn't get an even finish with any of them. However, it was low odor and it does dry and cure really fast compared to traditional latex paint. I'd recommend it, but with the caveat that you'll have to be prepared to do a little brush work to even out your finish.

I had the same issue as hopskotch: foamy, drippy, uneven spray. I needed to brush it as I sprayed, so it kinda defeated the purpose of using spray paint. Don't know if it was just a defective can or if that's the norm...

I am looking forward to seeing environmentally sound tagging while traveling the 405 and 110.
