Los Angeles Multi-Family Residential Recycling Program

larecyclingbins.jpgDo you know Los Angeles County alone needs to dispose over 3,500 tons of trash each and every day? That's a lot of trash that's being dumped into landfills. Recycling is easy for home owners, thanks to those great big blue bins that provide curbside recycling. But what about us apartment dwellers?

Starting April 2007, residents of multi-family apartments, condominiums, cooperatives, & mobile home parks can also partake in curbside recycling by registering in a FREE recycling program that provides residential buildings with five units or more with a once a week recycling program, blue bins for storage and educational material informing which materials are to be recycled using the bins. Contact 1-866-933-1101 or email SRCRD@san.lacity.org to take part in this Multifamily Residential Program.

Thank you so much for posting this! My apartment building just removed our recycling bins with no explanation. This seems anti-green and counterproductive even though we were the only tenants that used it.

We have had to resort to sneaking our recycling into the empty containers our neighbors still have. City governments should provide incentives to building owners and tenants who recycle.

I live in San Diego in a condo/townhouse community and I wish we had something like this! Maybe soon!!

Its about damn time! Last time I looked into this the city said they were working on a pilot program for apartment recycling. There are over 50 people in my complex yet the city won't help us recycle. Good find, thanks.

Thanks for the tip, Gregory! I'll be addressing this program with the boardmembers of my homeowners association.
