Thanks to Rowena who pointed out that Martha Stewart has blogged her favorite eco-friendly way to clean up her pets' accidents (specifically when they grace her sisal carpeting which is normally a total nightmare to clean).

Martha's been blogging away for a while and we're really into this tip since it's something we've never heard of. It's a product called Host that you sprinkle over the accident, it absorbs it, wetness and all and you vacuum it up. It's a dry process that is green seal certified and we think it's definitely worth a try.
But the big question is: Do you think Martha ever cleans it up herself?

I have a woven wool rug that smells like cat pee. I can't imagine a simple spray would fix it. What can I do? I am tempted to try dunking the whole thing into my tub with some soapy water, but that also sounds like a nightmare to me. Ideas? Do I just have to take it to the dry cleaners?

i think martha does clean the doo-doo herself. She seems like the OCD type who *needs/enjoys* to do it herself --otherwise she prolly won't think it was done right.

Also, Ed Begley's Spot Remover worked well on the spots on my carpet. it wasn't poo-poo, just dirt.

hi there... i've had dogs... dogs with accidents... multiple... smelly... accidents. on my wool berber rugs this works wonders: 1) remove the bulk of the waste by scooping together 2 pieces of cardstock, or magazine subscription cards. 2) spray on oxyclean. 3)sprinkle on lots of Borax... enough to soak up all the stain and then some. wait until it dries... and vacuum it all up. works like a charm... and yes borax works wonders on smells that won't go away with normal soap and water. avoid rubbing and scrubbing, as that only seems to rub the stain into your carpet
