Overview:
My design inspiration for the BH condo came from Minotti, Armani Casa, and Diva. My client, who is a successful bachelor in the jewelry business wanted a sophisticated, sleek, modern home. He wanted a place that he and his friends could settle in before and after they went out. He wanted it to be comfortable and modern, but not sterile and minimal.

We first selected the key pieces for his home which included the sofa, the leather day bed, and the credenza. I then worked off these items to select the paint colors and the rest of the items for the house.

Before

I had a couple drape challenges in designing this home. My client and I hated the wall to wall blinds and decided that drapes would be the best solution. But how in the world was I going to install a ton of drapes without going over budget? And second was how was I going to make this all happen. I decided that we should keep the blinds (to block out the sun) but hide them behind the drapes.

Luckily, Ikea came to my rescue with the RITVA drapes that I could have hemmed. So with some strategic maneuvering from my handyman, we installed the proper hardware after several trips to Anawalt.

*What Vanessa is taking on:

"Each week I will be posting one topic from a selection of three different topics on interior design in and around Los Angeles.
These topics are going to range from interviewing interior designers (Designer: “Profile”), to interviewing design store/showroom owners and their posting pictures of their items (Designer: “Hunt”), to showing examples of my work with a break down of what items were purchased (Designer: “Dissection”), to shopping at your neighborhood Ross or 99cent store and showcasing a slide show of the seriously cool cheap items to buy (Designer: “Hunt”)."

Vanessa,
This is great! Would it be possible for you to include the budget for your "Designer Dissection"
blogs.

I love those chairs. Are they actual Milo Baughmans? I missed a chance to pick up a knockoff pair for $500 recently at a local auction and am still kicking myself.

Vanessa, you are fabulous. I love the way that, having viewed some of your work online, I can see your stamp on this room as well as the stamp of the owner.
I really like that day bed from z gallery, a great take on aa classic..... the price is great too.
I have those same ikea curtains and I used them to span an entire wall of my apartment.

Not in love with the lighting fixtures though.... they both feel a little small and hung high..... is that because the ceilings are low or something, or is it just the picture? I'd love to know.

"So with some strategic maneuvering from my handyman, we installed the proper hardware after several trips to Anawalt."

Would you mind sharing what kind of hardware you used for the drapes? I'd like to install the same drapes in my bedroom, to hang from ceiling to floor to cover up my ugly closet doors. Did you use hardware from Ikea? Or something else?

I was thinking of using a hospital track but I'm not sure if that would work with the RITVA drape.

Vanessa, you really warmed up the room nicely and gave your client what he wanted - clean and modern but not sterile. Nice job. Looking forward to your new Designer series.

Would like to ditto supershopper's suggestion for cost of various pieces and whole project. It's always good to know if something we like is within our own budget.

Hello everyone...
Just got in to town from the market Furniture Show in Vegas and wanted to answer the questions posted.

Supershopper- I am actually not going to add the budget to the projects I post. The reason why is because some of my cleints have items that are previously owned or entertainment equipment that was purchased and therefore would not be acurate to the budget.
But what I will do is post all the items so you can go to the site or store and check the costs on your own.

Stvhamill - They are not Milo Baughman chairs.

GZgoingmod- the room color is Granite Grey from Glidden.

Carmen- As it state in the post, I did not buy the hardware at Ikea, it was purchased at Anawalt and was made up of large eyehooks screws and long curtain rods.

Thank you all for your wonderful comments!
More posts to come.....

This is such a sexy room. I love the color palette and the way that a modern room feels so warm. This is such a difficult thing to achieve when using modern pieces - but Vanessa pulls it off completely. Absolutely amazing - when will we see this 'before and after' in Arch. Digest?
