Keeping Warm and Cozy

012508warmcozy.jpg
Rain, hail, snow, tornado warnings... all kinds of wackiness here in SoCal the past few days. Times like these make us just want to stay indoors and snuggle in bed. What have you been doing to stay warm and dry? Any tips, questions or stories? We've put together a short list of some of our favorite posts and tips from AT:LA on things related to keeping warm and cozy...

Oh, I've been wrapping myself in a huge grey diaper and reading.

Yay, it's the Slanket! I'm wrapped up in my makeshift Slanket with a heating pad and an IKEA fleece blanket I bought "for the cats."

Canadian... -20C today (-4F) with wind chill...

Been staying warm with a pot o tea, slippers and a lap cat. The classic hot water bottle works, too.

Baking bread does wonders for a chilly day.

close the windows, close the blinds, put on some thick socks and have some tea! :) it does the trick for me.

oh, another thing is if you turn on the lights it also psychologically warms things up a bit

In my uninsulated PNW house, it's all about the family bed.

A couple months ago, I finally succeeded in getting my 4 year old to sleep in his own bed consistently, all night long.

Then it got real cold.

I can't undo all that hard work and let him back in my bed... so I joined him. Now it's the 2 of us snuggled up in his twin loft bed, with the dog underneath. Pretty hilarious, but this way I only have to heat one room at night, and it's the room with the fewest windows and exterior walls.

Also, my big xmas gift was the heated area rug, which I learned about here on AT. It is a godsend on my freezing laminate floor!

I wear a knit hat, like, all day. Indoors and out. It's not doing anything for my hair, but it keeps me warm. And slippers. Must have slippers.

Heated tables! A Japanese friend of mine gave me a kotatsu, which is a low table with a small heater underneath. Drape a blanket on top and its snugly warm leg time. For bedtime its an electric blanket. And maybe next year we'll install a heater. I never realized how spoiled I was with central heating growing up (I live in Southern California).

I put the "sleeping pill" on my bed. This is a wool throw from Norway that every time I cover myself with it, I fall asleep. I learned about this from my sister who bought a mohair one when she was in Scandinavia and then gave it to our mom. Every time we used it at mom's we zonked out. So I had to get one--mine's not as fluffy, but works just as well. Comfy!

Lands' End's HeatComfort Mattress Pad has made cold nights exponentially more comfortable for me...haven't climbed into a cold bed in more than a year.

And it makes rainy afternoon naps almost impossible to wake up from!
