Blast from the Past: Poverty Sucks

072607povsucks.jpg

I've been on the hunt for vintage posters on eBay, and when I found this Poverty Sucks poster circa 1980, my initial reaction was, "Well, that's a BIT blunt!" The layout is dated, the font is kinda cheesy, it didn't go with what I was envisioning for my hallway--but it reminds me of one of my favorite people, Business Bob. Business Bob is the dad of one of my closest friends, and aside from having a veritable library of coined phrases ("That's the kiss of death", "Square your horns at the table", "Let's button it up"), he hung this same poster in the foyer of the house, beautifully framed, and it was the first thing guests would see. My enduring image of Business Bob is him lying on the couch, with a bowl of ice cream balanced on his chest, watching a Dirty Harry movie, and this poster in the background.

Even though I got this poster against all of my initial decorating instincts, it's inspired me to decorate with more confidence: less matching, more of the unexpected, and love everything I have in my home (even if it seems nuts).

I love that attitude Grace, I think I could definitely benefit from a few more risks or seemingly 'out of place' pieces in my apartment. I think they call is 'unexpected'! Thanks for the tip!

Absolutely - embrace the unexpected. That is what makes a home a home and not a page from a DWR or Pottery Barn catalog.

I like this poster for one thing, what the fellow is wearing, fabulous on a cool fall day and yet still look quite dapper. :-)

Then again, you don't have to be rich to look it I always say as it never hurts to look richer than you truly are. ;-)

Oy. Pair this with the Garageworks carbon fiber-finished chairs posted above for extra cheese... (Hold the pickle.)

Haha, Enrique...tell us what you really think! We are so redecorating your place while you're away, neon lit frames, shiny tube black framed prints, ice block partitions and all.
