Whether or not you're cynical about this Hallmark holiday, it's always handy to have some gift ideas ready. Case and point: Last Valentine's Day, we found ourselves dragged along during our lunch break with one of our friends, trying to find something that was meaningful, functional, and not too hokey. Needless to say, we weren't terribly successful--but it rarely seems to be when it's down to the wire, right?
So we're thinking it might be a great idea to start a running list of suggestions--gifts that you've given or received that are particularly memorable and why. We'll start it off with these two picks from Red Envelope: The Ercolano Checkered Box and this set of Gemstone Love Tokens.
The Ercolano Checkered Box is stunning: each color block is handmade and pieced together with a high-gloss lacquer finish, perfect as a jewelry box for him or her. The Gemstone Love Tokens take those well-meaning handmade IOU's to a whole new level of chic by engraving racy proposals on ruby red glass faceted jewels. And after Valentine's Day ends? You could use 'em as paper weights...or give 'em to a stranger at Starbucks. (We kid, we kid...!)
I usually stick with either consumables or useful things (just like Christmas, only with a smaller list of recipients). It doesn't have to be love-specific (except maybe the accompanying card).

I got a collage frame from target, picked 4 pictures that were different yet meaningful to me and my boyfriend and had the back of the frame engraved. It was thoughtful, meaningful yet inexpensive and and personal, (what V day should be). He loved it. This year my bf is getting a wallet because his is on it's last breath.

Here I am, being that person: I think it's "case in point."
