You may remember Mark and Marissa from their House Tour we did just five short months ago. Only a pro could move across town and start fresh with furniture scored from thrift stores and Craigslist and create an entirely new landscape. In order to show off their new digs to Apartment Therapy readers, Marissa invited us to an afternoon garden party (complete with custom stationery). And while we all lusted over their previous eclectic inspired home, this space has its own individual style and feel...

Say the words "bachelor pad" and many imagine over the top lizard lounge decor, overly done masculine elements and an environment most decorated for show instead of actual living. This isn't the case with Scott's tastefully appointed self-proclaimed bachelor pad in the southern section of Silver Lake. At just under 600 square feet, Scott has been able to integrate his love for vintage MidCentury Modern seamlessly with contemporary pieces from scavenging from all around Los Angeles, with an optimal layout and handsome appeal (to woo or otherwise). Take a peek inside, but watch out for his protective feline friend, Kitty...she's watching you!

We've loved Murchison-Hume products for a while now, not just because they are effective eco-friendly products but because they also look so darn good (and will be arriving from Australia onto Anthropologie shelves any day now). We were thrilled to discover the aesthetic of Murchison-Hume products also flowed through their creators home. This house tour reflects taste and refined style, yet is still entirely a family home. Incorporating an amazing indoor/outdoor room, family kitchen space and a wall of personal silhouettes, this house is all tied together seamlessly with a simple colour pallete. Find out more about this delightful home after the jump...

House Tour: Alastair & Kayoko's "Mansion" Apartment
Tokyo

Name: Alastair Townsend and Kayoko Ohtsuki of BAKOKO Design Development
Location: Matsudo, Japan
Size: 400 sq. ft.
Years lived in: 6 months

>> Enter Slideshow

When architects Alastair Townsend and Kayoko Ohtsuki of BAKOKO Design Development wanted a place of their own to call home on the outskirts of Tokyo, they found a tiny 400 sq. ft. space which is amusingly referred to as a "mansion" apartment in Japan (mansion apartments are spaces usually rented to a single occupant due to their small size, ranging from miniscule 110 sq ft to spacious suburban family sized units). The apartment was transformed into a modern-minimal environment where they could easily work and meet clients, while also having an area to rest and relax. What we most love about they've done with the small space is their adaptation to the small space with luxuries like a tatami mat rest area, an overhead garden above the kitchen, the warm Hinoki wood decking in the bathing area, and the striking use of hot pink and black to designate spaces hidden inside the confines of a white dominated interior. It's spare, but inviting...

Years lived in: 2 years since remodel, 8 years total

Welcome to the home of Shawn Gold & Amy Neunsinger. Husband, wife and now business partners in cocodot.com. Amy is an accomplished lifestyle photographer and Shawn is the former CMO of MySpace. They bought a 1,500 square foot home on an amazing piece of property in Laurel canyon in 1998 and starting designing a year later. It took 5 years to design, acquire permits and figure out how to pay for it, before they actually broke ground in 2005, with an additional 2 years to build. Amy conceived the house with a photographer's needs in mind, with high ceilings, multiple textures and lots of beautiful light for her to shoot in. Today the house is a popular location for commercial and photo shoots (due in part to its more than spacious size and great interior lighting)...

Dwell on Design: Westside Home Tours, Part 2

070209-wscr01.jpgAs we noted yesterday, Sunday we were again up bright and early, this time checking out Dwell's home tours on the Westside of Los Angeles. The last two homes we saw on the tour (we only got to see 5 out of 6 due to our clutch issues) were located on opposite sides of Coldwater Canyon in the hills of Beverly Hills and they were definitely not for the shy...

Dwell on Design: Westside Home Tours, Part 1

070109-Dwellondes_small.jpgAfter Saturday's feast, we thought that we'd couldn't be anymore blown away. Well, we were wrong. After chilaquiles at our go-to Sunday breakfast spot in the Farmer's Market, we zipped on down to Venice to begin the day with a tour of the first house of the five we were able to see. In the battle of the west side v the east side, we were hard pressed to find a winner...

Dwell on Design: Eastside Home Tours, Part 2

063009esbh07.jpgYesterday we shared our photos of three of the house tours we checked out on Saturday on LA's east side. Today, we're sharing the other two homes we saw on the east side, including the Baxter Home which was memorable not only because of the house itself but because we destroyed our car's clutch trying to find it...

Dwell on Design: Eastside Home Tours, Part 1

62909dwelltours000.jpg How was your weekend? We spent ours checking out the Dwell on Design house tours. Saturday, we drove around the east side, checking out homes some of which were in neighborhoods we were completely unfamiliar with (Glassell Park) and others that were in neighborhoods we knew well but never would've guessed that they hid breathtaking modern homes within their depths. Although there were 6 tours to see on Saturday, we only made it to 5...

Size: 880 square feet
Years lived in: 2.5 years (owned)

To put it mildly, we were stoked when Jeremy accepted our request to coordinate an Apartment Therapy House Tour of his downtown LA loft. First of all--his pad is located at the historic Eastern Columbia Building, an art deco masterpiece. Not to mention, Jeremy himself is an individual of notoriety directing the remake of the cult classic, The Wizard of Gore. So you can imagine our curiosity and interest in what Mr. Kasten had up his sleeve in the decor department. To find out, we brought along our generous neighbor (and amazing photographer) Jason Redmond to help out with our evening shoot...

House Tour: David & Kurt Combines Classic with Modern
San Diego, CA

052209atlahousetour000.jpgName:David Skelley owner classic modern furniture store (Boomerang for modern) and Kurt Stell, artist
Location: “Little Italy” San Diego, CA
Size: 1,400 sq. ft.
Years lived in: 10, own

tour2009.jpgWhen David and Kurt first sent us photos of their San Diego home, we were in awe. Yes, they have access to the best of vintage mid-century modern furniture (David owns Boomerang for Modern); but they've made their home more than just a showroom of iconic pieces: It's so comfortable, inviting, and warm. In David's own words: "After 10 years here, I got to say it works wonderfully as we can’t think of another place we’d rather live."

House Tour: Dave and Shyla's Eclectic Loft at The Brewery
Los Angeles

050809dave-01.jpgName: Dave Lefner, artist and Shyla Marlin, actress and writer
Location: The Brewery Art Colony in Downtown LA
Size: 2,000 sq. ft.
Years lived in: 8 years

We have to admit, when we walked into Dave and Shyla's downtown pad, we felt like we were walking onto the set of "BIG". The huge loft is a mixture of eclectic fun (and like their friends claim--we could have stayed all day looking at everything). We first noticed the huge mirror that runs the expanse of the left side of the loft with a giant neon "S" reflecting back at us. And just above our heads hanging from a railing is a Cal Oaks vintage neon sign from Pasadena. Wandering into the center of the loft, a pair of purple velvet fun house couches make the living area feel cozy while staying true to the offbeat vibe. With a loft this big, we love how Dave and Shyla managed to create cozy areas to retreat to after a long day of work.
