Visiting the IKEA Southern California Home & Garden Show

082208ikeahomegardn00.jpgYesterday we drove down to the Anaheim Convention Center where IKEA was hosting the California Home & Garden Show. Not knowing what to expect, we were prepared for anything. Not to disappoint, IKEA showed off their version of a "Dream Home," which we must say, was pretty incredible (we'll share a detailed tour soon). After a private guided tour by IKEA veterans, we started to make our way down the aisles at the Home Show. We starting noticing that it was less about cool, modern trends and more about practical matters, like bricks and vinyl siding. But we wanted to come back to you with some interesting finds nonetheless, I mean – we did make the trek, why not make it work? Check out what we found after the jump.

082208show-01.jpgWe usually keep our cleaning supplies under wraps but we might display these decorative animal toilet bowl cleaners. They're the first ones we've seen with a pivoting brush.

082208show-02.jpgThis wicker ball is the ultimate furniture puzzle. Just take the ball apart and you instantly have seating for four.

082208show-03.jpgWe liked the double duty of this stone bench masquerading as a lion (the head and tail can separate from the bench). Across the way we spotted the bath-shower attachment from American Bath Factory.

082208show-04.jpgWe do love the fact that you are encouraged to hop on the furniture and test it out for yourself--our sleep number is 92. And then we caught sight of the ultimate space saver for any home--the fold up bed.

082208show-05.jpgAlmost missing the Lapis Collection, this egg-shaped sink impressed us with its simple but eye-pleasing design. Rounding out the show, the Fire on Ice fireplace is environmentally safe leaving no soot or dirt and is available in 21 colors.

The Home and Garden show reminded us of our first apartment here in Los Angeles. We had to make it work big-time when we trusted our roommate to find a place. Renting an apartment sight-unseen we ended up with green carpeting, dark cabinets and popcorn ceilings--what a challenge! Luckily, we had a few tricks up our sleeve and turned it into a charming pad.

What's a quick and easy way you "make it work" at home?

Thanks for the tour. When, Oh When, will Ikea open a store in the Denver area? We need one here!

Love the lion bench!

If I had known fireplaces sometimes leave a suit, I might have installed one long ago. Soot, however, I can do without.

What exactly is double duty about the lion bench? Has the term "double-duty" lost all practical meaning?

Seaside: trying to keep up with the spammers is becoming a fulltime job. Thanks for the heads up! Hopefully we can find a way to stop them from leaving spam from multiple IP addresses soon.
