It's a bit awkward to use (esp. when brushing teeth) but if you wait until after you wash your hands to flush and it does actually save water, I say Hurray!
I think it's great! Certainly a good prompter for those who might otherwise sneak out unwashed. It would take a little while, though, to get used to the water running immediately and having to remind yourself that it'e fresh - NOT coming from the bowl! It reminds me of the time I told my father that I had noticed that the drinking fountain at work (on the opposite side of the wall from a commode) lost pressure when someone flushed. His retort: Well - it's better than the pressure going UP when someone flushes!
do you know how many germs get kicked up in the air once you flush? unless you put the lid down and flush, i think this is one of a more dirtier ideas doe the bathroom... i'd rather just settle for a small sink!

One would hope we all flush with the lid down already!

Jamie - Tivo the Mythbusters show (Discovery channel). They did a great debunking of this myth. In their test they placed toothbrushes in several rooms, including directly over the loo. After several days they had them all tested for fecal coliform bacteria -if I remember right, the highest concentration was of all places, on the ones from their lunch room. The asked Dr. Joanne Engel, Microbiologist from UCSF, if they should be concerned about all that and she said "no".
That said, I wouldn't keep a toothbrush anywhere near the loo, but I think this faucet/toilet thingie is a cool idea for cramped spaces.

Boomer: How old is that episode? I thought I've seen like every mythbusters episode...
Still, I like to think of my toilet as... a toilet and keep my sink separate.

I think the problem with this is that the sink is right on the toilet's tank - that's too awkward a position. BUT, the idea of funneling the water drained from the sink into the toilet tank is a great one! Surely someone could design a separate sink that drains straight into the toilet somehow, in a was that looks attractive. Then the size of the sink wouldn't have to be limited, either.

i think it'd be great for commercial spaces- airplanes, tour busses, portable bathrooms...but for home use? come on...my bathroom is teeny, but i doubt any of us are that desperate for space.
Jamie - according to the Mythbusters Fan Club, that episode aired on Jan 25, 2004 - it's the one where they also Jamie water-skied behind a boat powered by human rowers. Tired human rowers. ;->

I have one of these and it's perfect for my tub-in-kitchen tenement apartment. I'd rather have guests wash their hands in the WC than at the kitchen sink (which is where we brush our teeth).

I saw this a lot in Japan. It seems to work great for simple 'toilet-and-then-wash-hands', but there's usually another singk for teeth brushing etc.
