It scares me a little. I want to like it, but I cant.

Maybe if I was looking at it from a different direction?

This reminds me of a joke...

What's the difference between a porcupine and a BMW?

With porcupines the pricks are on the outside.

That is one of the most horrible chairs I have ever seen. The awfulness almost hurts my feelings.
Hold me.

My 4 year old: "Momma, it looks like a koo-koo chair."

Yes, it does look a little crazy.

This would be cool if the design added function. If you could stand the chair on different sets of legs for different angles of seating, sort of like a frozen-in-time rocking chair, that would give it a reason for being... what it is.

The name "Burst" and the apparent epicenter of said burst make it look like the sitter is producing a giant wooden fart.

In case you folks were unaware, the picture is upside down. The chair was designed to seat a group of several people simultaneously.. one post for each butt.
If you relax and exhale, it's not so bad.

LOL -- I'm always the one saying something or other looks too modern for my tastes.

I actually like this chair. There's something funky about it that appeals to me. For starters, I love lime green. And then, a chair like that just can't take itself too seriously, which makes me like it.

Hello everybody.

Just thought I’d let you all know that I have had the misfortune to stumble across these comments and am rather hurt. I designed this chair at university last year and have recently graduated and am trying to start a career in England as a furniture designer / maker. If people don’t like my work then that’s fair enough, I don’t expect everybody to, but I’m upset to find strangers on the other side of the Atlantic slagging it off to one another. The internet can be a bit of a faceless thing but it’s worth remembering that behind the things you don’t like (presumable you cast judgements about other things on this site) there are real people.

No doubt it’s part of the course to take the rough with the smooth if you put your work on public display – I hear the cry - but you might like to remind the next time you discuss a design or piece of work that behind it are people who are trying hard, doing their best and deserve some respect above name calling - even if you remain critical.

Rant over. Signing out.

Mr. Tilbury,

You are right about the internet. It is easy to look at something and hate it without regard for the creator of the item, and to use foul words and be completely insensitive. You know what else about the internet? I think people are saying what they really wish to say and not censoring themselves as appropriate. It's not like they're being extra rude than they were brought up to be, it is more like they are being extra polite in face-to-face situations than they would naturally be.

It's almost really hard to gain any progress because you have to walk on eggshells and make sure everyone keeps their spirits up. If you find fault with someone, expect them to shut down production of whatever it is they do out of spite, rather than take the constructive criticism and strive to reform. I am the same way. If you say boo, I will want to kick you in the balls and go hide. I don't want to take your "collaborative" comments and make something better out of my idea and your inarticulate suggestions. If you worded everything just so, I might not grasp the degree of offense you've taken with my item though. The language you have to use to be nice to people might not encourage them enough to process an actual criticism.

However, you have taken the conventional idea of a chair and distorted it. It has a lot of legs. The seat is kind of "typical" or non-committal. Neutral? A possible afterthought to the central concept. I like the idea that seems to be that this chair can be propped at any angle by device of the legs (as determined by mathematics) and not some inner mechanism, but I also had to laugh because it demonstrates a wooden fart (an observation I have to agree is concise and accurate). When you make something unexpected, on one hand brilliant in plan, you have to be able to extend your personal vision to accept some people will find such bizarrity so off-putting as to describe in colorful language how much it makes them want to vomit. Until one can actually upload their vomiting to the internet blogs, expect such a response occasionally and be glad!

Cheers,

K T G
