I'm surprised at the survey response so far. Maybe I'm weird for thinking this is silly looking?

I agree with the comments above. It looks like a cheap New Year's Eve decoration.

I have a question regarding installaion of lights like this...
I currently have a recessed single light in my kitchen (large flood blub), and I wanted to install the Knappa pendent lamp from Ikea in my kitchen.
Is there a way to rig the recessed socket to hang a lamp like this?
I'm clueless when it comes to electrical & lighting installation....

Please contact an electrician and they will be able to convert it for you. I don't think with a recessed socket, there's any way to make any sort of extension, and if you're clueless, I don't think you want to be pulling out the wires yourself. Rewiring is easy if you know how, and dangerous if you don't.

I saw on TV a pendant light base that you screw into the can light like a bulb, and it drops a fixture on a cord to which you can add pretty much any shade you like. So, yes, the fixture exists. I asked once at Home Depot or someplace, and they said they could get one for me, but I haven't followed through yet.

At $200 this is cute and whimsical. At $700 (on sale, no less) it is pathetic.

It reminds me of a 3-D honeycomb paper party decoration. It's just really tangly and cheap looking.
