Paul McCobb, the underdog of Mid-century modern designers designed these chairs as part of Winchendon's Planner Group of modular furniture in the late 1940's. These were originally designed for the budget conscious Modern America and was embraced for its affordability and surprisingly superb craftsmanship but looked down upon by elitist collectors today for being too mainstream (like Meier for Target).

The ad photo does not do justice to these chairs. Like most mid-century dining or desk chairs, these are best viewed and admired from the back, specially from the outside through a big sliding glass door or window.

The ad is a bit on the pricey side and somehow contradicts the designer's original intent to bring good design accessible to all.
