Hot or Not: The color Purple

092507_jesus.jpg

One of my male co-workers is so obsessed with The Big Lebowski that he decided to paint his living room the exact shade of purple of Jesus Quintana's jumpsuit. He also attends Lebowskifests, says things like, "Yeah well, you know, that's just like your opinion man", and collects Nixon bowling posters for his cubicle.

To be honest, I was a wee bit skeptical on his paint choice--not because of the Lebowski reference (love the movie), but because I was thinking it might turn his living room into one giant eggplant. But after perusing a recent issue of Domino, I was pleasantly surprised to see the color purple given its due: the room looks pretty damn good, especially paired with that light pink room just beyond the doorway.

What do you think? Should purple be relegated to little girl's rooms and pastel shades, or is it worthy for a living room?

I would actually love to have a plum dining room. My furniture is French and painted a mossy green color.

I'm ripping off the color scheme from the New Orleans Ritz-Carlton, but I love these shades together.

Certain shades of purple on the walls might please me, but this one would have me singing, "I love you, you love me, we're a happy fa-mi-ly" everytime I sat down to dinner.

Dunkin Donuts color?---anything on the walls there should be predetermined to be off limits in your home...the color purple in DD and especially Rachel Ray.

My boyfriend recently painted his very small bathroom this color. While I love the color on it's own, it takes a little getting used to.

Haven't liked purple since I was into it with pink, along with unicorns and rainbows.

My favorite line is how Lebowski keeps saying that his urine-soaked rug "really tied the room together." Either that, or "Toe? I could get you a toe by 3:00!"

I have friends who are passionate about purple and adore aubegine as much as they are ecstatic over eggplant. While not for me, I think too many in the anti-lavender crowd are reacting to the rep and not the color itself.

One of my favorite combinations of color/texture is purple satin/brown velvet/satin nickel. So delicious!

I think your coworker is absolutely funny and hilarious. That movie is such a cult. That and Snatch stand on a pedestal on it's own. My husband and I quite "no one F___s with DeJesus" or "Shut up Donnie, shut up" Such A GREAT movie.
