apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

House Call: Minimal Cozy
Singapore

  • Name: Stanley Tham - KNQ Associates
  • Location: Leicester Road, Singapore
  • Size: Approx. 1000 sq. ft. Condo
  • Years lived in: Approx. 2 months

Here's a short, but sweet look at a moderate size apartment from our friends in Singapore with a golden warm palette that reminds us of warm Cali sunsets, despite being located on the other side of the globe. The minimal but cozy space's most striking feature is its reading nook, a built-in seating area which doubles as a library spot and undoubtedly a great section to doze off in...

This is absolutely gorgeous pad. Stylish, functional, emotional, and altogether livable. Love it.

Usually I hate minimalism, but this place looks so cozy and comfortable!

Beautiful decor and the reading nook is seductive. But the last thing I would call this apt is cozy. It's all hard edges, stiff foam rubber and no personality. Even the reading nook doesn't have a pillow.

In my mind, this is the best apartment ever on AT. Exactly my style. I could live there forever. Beautiful. Calm. Minimal without being cold. I want to fall into that bed. Love it, and thanks.

Here's more: love that there appears to be no "landing strip" (a term and concept that I find icky, as it also applies to a certain shaving technique regarding women) with keys, dog leashes, mail, etc. and also no bowls with remotes, change, etc. This place proves that it is possible to live without clutter.

I love how that nook/shelf in the livingroom wall is extended with a picture to the end of the sofa.

Very clever.

Great office room! I love what they did on the built in bed. The apartment could do with some more plants though, I'm missing a little green.

It makes me so sad to see only a couch facing a TV instead of conversational seating!

Lovely! My blog is all about the best decorating styles for smaller spaces. A minimalist/modern look almost always works well. Here is the link for those interested http://thejewelboxhome.blogspot.com/

I know this is Singapore, but any ideas on where that sofa is from, or something similar?

Layout is practically same as mine here in Honkers...guess all new builds are the same over here.
Nice bright place..and no landing strip because apartments here aren't built with corridors - that's wasted space...the door opens straight into the room.

Typical interior in Singapore - contemporary city sleek..
Imho, a bit too cold even in the tropical climate.

Yet, I have to agree that the reading nook is a dream!

I dont know. When I'm reading, I do so for hours at a time. Without meaning to sound critical, I think that reading nook is destined to become a dog bed. It might be the angle of the photo, but it looks too short to lie down on. There is no back support for sitting and really no comfortable place for the head. Well, the wedge looks really comfy but I think I'd have to let my feet hang down to use it,and I'm only 5'2. Alas, I think this is just an illusion of a cozy reading nook, but it whets my desire for a cozy, napping and reading nook in the office.

I love the office and reading nook and the bedroom. The living room doesn't do it for me. It seems a bit bland and I don't like the furniture, but the design of the space itself is great.

My favorite thing about the whole decor is that they don't have a bunch of stuff. I hate a bunch of collected little things.
