Ali's Art Gallery Craftsman
House Call

Name: Ali Grossman
Location: Los Feliz, California
Size: 1,200 sq. ft.

Reader Ali wrote in to share her fond memories of the classic 1912 Craftsman home in Los Feliz she's called home, but is now saying goodbye to:

This women I knew in New York told me the story of when she met the man who would later become her husband. "Oddly," she told me many years later, the first thing that went through her head was, "I thought he would be taller." As soon as I stepped into this 1912 Craftsman, I had a similar 'A-ha' moment...

"Even if I don't get this house," I thought, "at least I now know exactly what I am looking for."

I am happy to report I did get the house and for the last five years I have enjoyed everything from the outdoor fireplace, to the vintage tiles in the bathroom, to it's proximity (walking distance) to every kind of food LA has to offer (not to mention two movie theaters, but now I'm just bragging). And three years ago, on a whim, I decided to turn the large barn-like garage into an art gallery and proceeded to throw one-night-only art show parties. The events caught on and became a whole salon type of scene straight out of a Parker Posie indie movie.

The main attraction was the art and great music (and free wine and cookies) but I would leave the house open as well. People couldn't believe I would let hundreds of strangers into my house but I knew everything would be fine, and it always was. The house commands respect and I often had people ask if it were for sale. It never was...until now. I hope someone special decides to buy it and loves it as much as I have.

Dying for every single inch of this. I live on Beachwood now after years in Los Feliz... even though I'm 1.3 miles away, I still miss it every day.

Your home is beautiful inside and out!
I hope leaving it is the right decision for you but it must have been difficult to make.
Good Luck.

It's a great-looking home! I don't understand the point that pendant light hung really high above the coffee table. I love the fixture, and love the space, but why would you need that there?

Charming. I love that the decor really fits the house, but isn't too stylized, just relaxed, warm and modern--very 'California'. The backyard is incredible.

Such a great example of when I think of a LA bungalow or cottage. I would love to have one of these homes, just not in LA (I served many years there).
Lovely home and love the back yard.

Absolutely adore the color in the bedroom. Hopefully someone else who can appreciate the home buys it from you!

Love this. All the right details- colorful without being overly dark or busy. Don't know why you're moving, but I'd love to see what you do with your new place.
