Name: Heather and Josh Smith
Location: Los Feliz, CA
Size: 1,275 square feet
Newlyweds, Heather and Josh, open the doors to their charming and comfortable Los Feliz apartment. Thoughtful about their design choices, they wanted to plan their first space together around cherished family heirlooms, like the hand-made mosaic coffee table in the living room and the matador painting in the dining room. Incorporating her taste for classic-with-a-twist pieces and his interest in colorful palettes, the couple has designed a charming space that is combination of eclectic, classy and comfortable.

Now I want a green velvet sofa.

I'm majorly in love with that Bottle Green velvet sofa, the burlwood end table and the vintage dining set on it's yellow rug!

I like the colours used in this home it reminds me of the cool colours of fashion designers John Rocha's garden at his home in France. You can see it at heartanddesign.blogspot.com

Oh man, the sofa!

Ok. Where did you get the sofa? Love it!

Lovely and that couch, jeez. Very nice.
I always thought the color coded book idea was beautiful. But seeing it in real life seems forced for my liking and I'm already OCDing that there are black books in the yellow book section

The color-coded books are killing me with their disregard for book size.
Other than that, adorable. :]

I'll bet that sofa is vintage, yall.
Where o where can you get a rug like that?
Love it.

beautiful sofa!!

I love that sofa too. Doesn't look vintage to me. I bet it's a custom hutton sofa from room and board. When you build your own you have the option for different back cushions, button tufting etc...
view kevoncubine's profile
its actually the the paige sofa from www.thesofaco.com customized...

i think!

Every time I see color coordinated bookshelves I get depressed, I keep wondering if they ever READ those books or they use them only as "a splash of color".

you get a rug like that at homegoods! i saw one today!

That sofa is fantabulous!!!!
view suzy8track's profile
yes, the sofa was customized by the couple via The Sofa Company.

Bottle. Green. Velvet.
I love it.

My vote is the Rupert customized because of the seat cushions that come around the front of the track arms. This couch is strikingly close to a vintage one I'm getting rid of because it's showing it's age. Now I can replace it with an almost identical one!

Never in a million years did I think I would like a sofa like that (in green!) but in your home I do.

The rug reminds me of one that Ikea might still carry? I saw several by the as-is section, but it was also in the main rug area of the store- for some reason, the website won't show it.

This looks like a beautiful building, but I don't really understand why this is a house tour. It doesn't really look like anybody lives here, it seems only partially furnished. Have the people not totally moved in yet?
And why is there a picture of a completely empty hallway? What is the is the design feature there? Is it the glimpse of far-away shower curtain?
Also, apart from the two pictures and the contentiously arranged bookcase, where is this "interest in colorful palettes" of which they speak? (Or is that where the shower curtain comes in?)

Okay. I have to comment. Because I JUST reupholstered an old family couch (50s? 40s?) in a very similar green velvet - but am not happy with the reupholstery job. So even though I now own a bottle green velvet sofa, I still have sofa envy!
Not to hijack this thread, but would anyone be willing to look at a pic of the couch and let me know if I should be taking the cushions back to the upholsterer for more work?

idontdobeige,
This is a House Call, a smaller version of an Apartment Therapy House Tour, where we show just a few rooms in a home. I showed the hallway to indicate where the bedrooms and bathroom are although the House Call doesn't include the entire home. The couple is planning on hanging an art gallery in the long hallway from their recent honeymoon.

RebeccaATLA,
Could you ask the owners about the source of the carpet in the dining room? Thanks!

Shoodylu, the yellow rug was given to Heather from her aunt and uncle and she doesn't know the source.

Yes, the sofa is indeed wonderful. Every time I see it, I want it, but I have to remind myself that it would probably not look good w/ my decor!
I also really love that coffee table. It's such a unique shape; I don't think I've seen one like that before. It seems like a great game table.

great sofa! If it's new, would love to know where it's from. Recently bought a comfy velvet chair and definitely want to go with a velvet couch -- the fabric feels so great.
