House Call: Kohler LivingHome
Long Beach

021309_lh01.jpgThis past week we drove down to Long Beach and had the pleasure of checking out the Kohler LivingHome, a sustainably designed, modern prefab home. Might we say...simply stunning and very cool. Assembled in just four days and design to achieve LEED Platinum level certification, the prefabricated home features materials, products, technology and furnishings that highlight the best in sustainable design. We especially loved....

We also enjoyed learning that the Kohler LivingHome used recycled steel and time-efficient engineered lumber to make up the modules, recycled glass tiles, high-performanced windows with recycled window frames, water saving features and other LEED features.

021309_lh02.jpgThe home was furnished by interior designer, Kristin Kilmer, who continued the green effort by using furniture + decor built with sustainable materials. (Love the cork shade over the dining table!)

021309_lh04.jpgLivingHomes has helped to evolve prefab living to such amazing aesthetic heights plus the sustainability effort put into these homes is remarkable. The Kohler LivingHome reflects 6 key objectives for all LivingHome's construction and operation: Zero Water, Zero Energy, Zero Waste, Zero Emissions, Zero Carbon, and Zero Ignorance. These homes are built to leave a very minimal environmental footprint. Now we just need to find some land and we are in!
