The homes were modern in style which, given that Dwell was sponsoring the tour was expected, but what was less expected and what really blew us away was how many of them took advantage of the weather in Los Angeles to orient themselves towards the outdoors, whether through expansive doors that opened onto lush courtyards or in the case of two homes we saw on Sunday (look for those posts later in the week), floor to ceiling windows in rooms where windows were unexpected.

• Casa Cuadrada - This house in Silverlake, the home of an architect and his artistically exuberant wife, mixes mid-century modern with original art (check out the chandelier), family heirlooms, the traditional and the exotic.
  
• Hidden House - Literally hidden within a canyon on 7 acres bordering Glassell Park, this home opens its arms to the outside world; the living room, kitchen, dining room and sitting room all open completely to the inner courtyard.
  
• Three Trees - One of the smallest homes we saw, we were primarily impressed with how the house merges the traditional Spanish Colonial style of Los Angeles with the vernacular of a modern Case Study home.
