Dwell on Design: Westside Home Tours, Part 2

070209-wscr01.jpgAs we noted yesterday, Sunday we were again up bright and early, this time checking out Dwell's home tours on the Westside of Los Angeles. The last two homes we saw on the tour (we only got to see 5 out of 6 due to our clutch issues) were located on opposite sides of Coldwater Canyon in the hills of Beverly Hills and they were definitely not for the shy...

Check out the slideshow here!

In one, the Pasinetti House, the shower off the master bedroom is completely glass. Nope, the owners are not exhibitionists; a flick of a switch makes the glass completely opaque! In the other, the Caverhill Residence, located just east of Coldwater Canyon, the backside of the house, including one of the toilets in the guest wing over the garage, is completely open to the breathtaking view of the hills and downtown skyline.

  • Pasinetti House - Originally built in 1958, it's been restored to its former glory, honouring the original architect's vision with contemporary touches.
  • Caverhill Residence - Panoramic views of Los Angeles from the Hollywood Hills to Downtown are the core draw at this dramatic modern home. Its open floor plan, many terraces and balconies and low air-conditioning and heating requirements are icing on the cake.

Once again, thanks to Dwell and Haily Zaki for a jam packed weekend and, if you missed the tours this year, consider calendaring them for next spring.

[our camera's battery was not on its best behaviour so some of these images have been taken from the websites of the architects: images 1-5, 10, 14,15 of the Pasinetti House from Willow Glen Partners; images 20 and 32 of the Caverhill Residence via Studio Pali Fekete architects. Please see websites for more photos, information and photographer details, if any]
