2-23-housetourlogo.jpgWe were lucky enough to ring in 2008 at Eric and Christine's first annual 1960’s-style New Years soiree. Their home had the “ring-a-ding” charm and swingin’ elegance akin to a classic Kennedy-era pad. So when we approached Christine and Eric and begged them to let us stop by to do a house tour, we were grateful that they happily agreed.

Warm and breezy, every level of their 4-balcony home gives off a beach vacation vibe (and that's hard to fake in mid-July Silver Lake). Lending a helping hand to the feeling is the expanse of a 4th wall glass window in the upstairs guest bathroom. The huge sliding glass doors on every level of the house give it a unique "lazy afternoon in a boys club" setting. The perfect atmosphere for catching up on Mad Men.

The thing that impressed us most-- almost all the paintings were done by Eric’s dad and brother, the amateur artists in the family. When we asked Eric where his paintings were hiding he said he gets more enjoyment out of collecting the art. Our favorite DIY projects are the two clocks that Christine made out of steel bread baskets and wooden chopsticks from local restaurants. Let's see how the pair mix a vacation vibe in an old school setting..

AT Survey:

Inspiration: Mid-Century Modern

Fun Fact: Featured in a reality show called “Going Hollywood” (which apparently didn’t last long).

Favorite Element: Airiness and Dad’s desk chair in office.

Biggest Challenge: The hillside location causes cracks (When purchased in 1994, it was deemed an earthquake foreclosure)

What Friends Say: "Wow, this is awesome, great view!"

Biggest Embarrassment: Family heirloom hanging in the driveway. It looks like we sell falafels here.

Proudest DIY: Decorating the house (not including large ugly painting in living room—Christine hates it).

Biggest Indulgence: Sound system wired throughout the house and remote controlled shades.

Best advice: A home you’re happy in is well worth the effort. But for us, it didn’t happen overnight. It took years and years and it's still not done

I LOVE this house. Great colors and style.

Am I petty to be bothered by the living room uphosltery being pushed onto the carpet in a semicircular arrangement w/o and tables or case goods between the pieces? Is that hopelessly old fashioned and stuck in another style century? Is the alternation of hard & soft no longer a key principle of space planning?

This depicts style and creativity. It isn't my style but it is beautiful. Obviously two very creative people. Thanks for sharing the photos with all of us. The shower is spectacular.

1. I want to see the falafel.
2. Aren't they afraid of sliding down the hill with an earthquake?
3. It's a lovely house that nicest of all, is so obviously beloved and enjoyed by them.

The photograph that is hanging in the stairwell, who is it by? My husband and I saw that piece in a gallery maybe seven years ago and we still talk about it.

Amazing home. I would LOVE to start my day in that shower. And that picture of Route 66/Central Ave in Albuquerque made me homesick for New Mexico.
