love the orange front doors, I have been toying with that idea as well.

Those front doors are amazing. Great job! I love the bathrooms, and that is a killer desk.

The advice on waiting and buying the good stuff is right. I've made my own mistakes over the years, and have given away so many "wrong" pieces.

One complaint: Damien is wearing the wrong colour shirt when holding the puppy. We need contrast to see all the cuteness.

The orange doors are stunning and so are the house numbers... perfect. Lots of beautiful things.

LOVE. My only niggling criticism is that I want the living room rug to be bigger, but I completely get the fact that big rug = beaucoup dollars, and UO is a good source for smaller, yet still creative and interesting area rugs.

First: As someone who grew up in an MCM housing development, I must say the color of your front door is spot on. I passed similar doors while toddling towards school, clutching my Peanuts lunch pail with a busted thermos inside.

Second: Surprisingly, I don't mind that poster being above your bed, because it makes sense within the context of emptying your mind for sleep (yes, I stole that line from TS Eliot).

Third: SLO for the win!

Fourth: Who has a pink tummy? Who?

Don't rub that pink tummy too hard. Bostons are among the gassiest of dogs.

I love the Jonathan Adler greyhounds. I was thinking of buying them, and having seen them in someone's home now, I know I -need- them.

Also, your dog is gorgeous.

Thanks to everyone for your input on our house! It is our first house as a married couple and so we had to get creative – to keep the cost under control! Because anyone who has done a remodel knows how quickly the cost can get out of hand. Olive is the name of our puppy that is a much loved puppy, but yes quite gassy! So here are some answers to questions other AT lovers had:

skd - the vanity and the storage piece in the master bath are actually dressers from West Elm that we put counter tops and sinks on, and in the guest bathroom the two sink consoles were purchased on clearance at Home Depot

hissingsissing – the brain poster in the guest bathroom is actually Cavallini & Co. wrapping paper that I got at a website called www.touchofeurope.net and it came in a set of 3 or 4 of those vintage looking medical posters, that I framed

cbboard – the moose, deer, and rhino heads were purchased at a local store, but they were just plain cardboard when I bought them and then I took cool wrapping paper from companies like Cavallini & Co. and Snow and Graham and covered each piece before I put them together.

mojjo7 – The painting in the office is by an artist named Shag, that particular painting is titled ‘Tuff Break’ but here is his website you can check out his other cool pieces www.shag.com

idea chick - the pendant above the dining table was from CB2 I think it was called the eden pendant lamp, it was originally wired for a plug but I had my handy husband rewire it and it works like a charm

Sweet little pup! Great photography. Nice and bright. The freestanding tub is awesome. The orange doors, beautiful. If you guys ever have kids, you're going to be hating the white living room furniture.

Beautiful work so far; I will be interested to see what you all do with the kitchen. A quick question: the Eileen-Gray-ish table in photo 7 -- do you remember where you found it? TIA. Oh, and I'm also curious: what is the lovely color in the living room now? Was it a question at all to remove that rather cool (from the photo, at least) freestanding fireplace? Did you relocate it within the house or relocate it altogether?

The doors and the bathrooms are daring but I would love to see some of that boldness brought into the living room and sitting area with the leather chairs. The living room, especially, looks like it's from someone else's home. Be fearless! (Plus you have that fearsome dog to protect you.)

I absolutely love your home. As almost everyone before me has mentionned, those front doors are to die for.

I don't see a great deal of personality but a lot of showroom quality vignettes. Every design cliche' from 2005 brought together in one place.

I love the front doors, the bathrooms, the metal desk, and, or course, the dog.

Everything looks a little too brand new to me and would personally like a few more older pieces. This is most likely why I loved the cross stitched piece, it seemed to add a little bit of history. Most likely many would say the complete opposite of my home, too much history not enough new.

All in all it is a beautiful home.

That pink tummy stole the show! That said, it looks clean and modern yet I find some of the bathroom fixtures too obtuse for the space they are in. The same hold's true for the furniture. Those wonderful leather tufted chairs look out of place on the rug and in it's cold surroundings. Something is amiss. Sorry.

Why can't we just let people enjoy their "Keep Calm" posters in peace? Same goes with the "For Like Ever". In fact, I think I'll order one right now...

mjr I have to agree! If people like the keep calm and for like ever than so what! I like them both, so what if other people don’t - than you don’t have to put it in your house!

Also I would have to say why is it that people give criticism on this site do they not give any suggestions to fix what they think is wrong, like click212 you do not like the leather chairs with the rest of the area so instead of just criticizing it how about a suggestion on how to make the area not so cold.

Sheesh--I posted the first (or one of the first) comment about the Keep Calm poster. I was joking about its placement over the bed, not criticizing the poster itself.

I still think it's a quirky (kinky? ;-) ) statement in that place. And we're having fun trying to imagine just what it means...

kelleyk, my comment wasn't directed at you. As soon as I saw the poster in the tour, my first thought was "How many comments before someone picks on it?", and sure enough... In pretty much every comments section after someone's tour that includes one of the 2 "offending" posters, people start picking on how passe they are and how daft the home owners must be to still have them on display. Do normal people really replace their art every year to keep up with trends?

Don't fret about your kitchen (regarding the comment about it's being an embarrassment). I don't think it's bad at all. Mine was far, far worse (circa 1979), and it took me 10 years to get it remodeled! Judging from the rest of your house, your new kitchen will be fabulous when you get around to doing it.

dzignkrazy - the steel pipe bed and the stainless steel desk were pieces that my husband custom made for our house and the leather tufted chair, rocker and ottoman are vintage pieces that my grandparents bought in the 60’s or 70’s and they were handed down to Damien and I.

First of all it would be presumptuous of me to dictate taste to others. I merely said what I saw was true for me. The owners of this home can just ignore me or take a look at what I saw. Taste is a very personal thing and we learn about space and proportion as design elements as we go along and see our own sense of what works as we develop our skills. It is certainly like enhancing your wine taste. I certainly am grateful when someone shows me something I didn't know before. Telling someone what to do is fine perhaps for you. This is going to sound odd, but I actually like your kitchen. You wouldn't have to gut it to bring it together with the rest of your style. You could probably just paint the cabinet doors. I like the knobs in the centers of the doors (though I can see how some would not) and the pattern on the backs of the cabinets.

I could see how maybe another pop of that blue on the accent pillow would make the room with the leather chairs seem more complete.

I did not even think of the dirty joke - dirty, dirty minds!! :)that goes along with putting the Keep Calm and Carry On poster over the bed until it was mentioned in these comments… I was just trying to fill that wall with frames and art I already had, that wall is huge (like 23 or 24 feet)! And I thought of it more in the context as of emptying your mind for sleep, as commented by rosenatti.

In some ways, this is a great house. But I couldn't help but be struck by the number of design cliches. Yes, of course, there's the Keep Calm and Carry On poster -- that didn't get by many! And of course, there are the double ginormous sinks in both bathrooms. One apparently can't be a guest in that house without dragging along another guest to use the other sink. Hey, you didn't sneak by me your little trio of white Jonathan Adler vases! And of course, the Jonathan Adler greyhounds.

Why, God, why? There are inventive talented American ceramicists going back to the turn of the 20th Century -- why must we worship at the altar of Mr. Adler when there are so many deserving others?

Think long and hard before you renovate the kitchen. If you end up with ebony cabinets, granite tops, stainless steel appliances, and backsplashes tiled with small blue tiles, I'll be heart-broken. And check out some more ceramicists. Here's a name to try: Gambone. Yes, he's dead, but his work lives on -- and is so subtle and beautiful we should try to get some here!
