Favorite element: Wall of windows in the living room.
What friends say about my home: They like the use of color and the simplicity of the home
Most embarassing element: Master bathroom is visible from the entry hallway
Biggest Challenge: Dealing with cement board walls from the 50's (this was used in house construction only for a short time - after lathe & plaster and before current wall board)
Proudest DIY: The partial wall behind the master bed used to create a walk-in-closet… You can see detailed pics here.

Thanks for the correction, Shanna. It isn't a term a use that often. (This is why I never entered a spelling bees as a kid. I'd probably score a big xeri.)
Absolutely gorgeous!!!
This could possibly be my dream home.
Where does one go to have large windows constructed for replacement such as the ones in the livingroom?
Woo-hoo! At long last, Lori2's Mom's house! This is the house tour I've been waiting for. And, boy, was it worth the wait. Love it all. And am really loving the great desert zeroscaping in the front yard. Thanks for sharing.
What great DIY inspiration! I love the yard, too.
Can you share more detail about the platform bed made from doors and MDF? I've used doors for bars and tabletops but it never occured to me to do this. I'm intrigued :) Doors are such a great and inexpensive sturdy resource!
Awesome! I remember seeing the photos of the closet being made - somewhere - maybe here.
Ditto DJ on the bed. Any possibility of details on how to put those 2 doors and the MDF together for the bed. I love this bed. Love it.
Thanks for positive feedback for my mom's place! It was Enrique's idea to do a house tour for my mom. Thanks, Enrique!
-Landscaping:
She said she spent 6 months of reading landscape design books, and kept drawing plans and throwing them out, not happy with anything. Then one day she was on the web and came across a website called the "Mondrian Machine" that allowed the user to make their own Mondrian image by clicking on a blank square. As she was clicking and making her own Mondrian, she knew that was the perfect design for the yard.
-Supershopper:
If you want to replace the whole window fames and glass, then you use a good window installation company that uses window products like Milgard. If you just want to replace the glass, and keep your frames, you can use a glass company (like Magic Door and Glass in PS). In both cases, they come to your house, do the measuring, and come back and install everything.
-Bed:
It really is simple. Two 80x30 (equal to a queen size mattress) hollow core doors are joined together with little metal straps, and then the base is made from 4 pieces of MDF or plywood - all joined with metal angles and screws. We built one for me, so I have the plans and will post the exact details later today.
Update on the bed plans: I am going to send details (and hopefully a couple of close up pics) along to Jonathan and he will post on AT. Stay tuned...
Lori, tell your mom I'm movin' in!! :) Awesome place. So beautiful and inviting, and definitely minimalist without being austere. Excellent!!
Beautiful house! Love, love the platform. How sturdy is this platform? can this hold a heavy pillow top mattress? Looking forward to the bed plans.Congrats to your mom!

Xeriscaping, not Zeroscaping :)
The whole house looks terrific! The background is neutral and the touches of bright colors just did the trick. I especially love the color of the sofa. I'm not really into purple but that is a really nice (almost blue violet) shade.
Yay for my neighbor's mom! Lori2 knows that her mom is my idol--so impressed by all the things she can build/create.
The house is beautiful and the outdoor space is amazing. I want to be cool like L2's mom! (And Lori should give her own house tour when she feels like her apartment is finished...)
